Man and woman arrested in Toa Payoh after drugs and weapons found in car
A 31-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were arrested in Toa Payoh on Sept 4 after police found weapons, suspected drugs, and contraband cigarettes in their car. The arrests were made during a patrol at Block 4 Lorong 7 Toa Payoh. The cases have been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau, Singapore Customs, and the Health Sciences Authority.

SCDF full-time national serviceman dies after collapsing at Marina Bay fire station
A 20-year-old full-time national serviceman from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) died in hospital on Sunday after he was found unconscious at the Marina Bay Fire Station training ground. Lance Corporal Muhammad Noor Ilham Muhammad Iszwadi was given CPR by colleagues and taken to Singapore General Hospital, where he died. Police said they do not suspect foul play.

NUS study: Sand with more oxygen helps microbes break down oil faster
A new study by the National University of Singapore found that microbes in well-drained, oxygen-rich beach sand degrade oil much faster than in waterlogged sand. The research, prompted by the 2024 oil spill, showed a 40% degradation rate in oxygen-rich conditions versus 5% in oxygen-poor conditions.
