Armizan: Sabah-Federal cooperation vital to fix infrastructure in Papar
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said stronger cooperation between the Sabah and Federal governments is needed to address infrastructure problems, especially road maintenance and upgrading. Speaking at a Jalur Gemilang Merdeka Tour event in Kampung Sekayan, Papar, he noted that several roads in Papar built 10 to 20 years ago now require repairs, and that rising costs and unpredictable weather including floods are worsening the situation.

Man gets six years, two strokes for assaulting underage stepsister
A 22-year-old man was sentenced by the Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu to six years in jail and two strokes of the cane for sexually assaulting his 14-year-old stepsister. The offence took place in November 2025 in the living room of a house in a village in Papar, and he will also undergo counselling and two years of police supervision after release.

Crocodile captured in Kawang
Residents of Kampung Beringgis in Kawang, Papar, are relieved after the Wildlife Department captured a nine-foot female crocodile on Tuesday. However, they remain concerned as more crocodiles, including larger ones, are believed to be in the river.

Six detained, RM2.58 million syabu seized
Police in Sabah dismantled two drug trafficking operations in Papar and Penampang, seizing 51.624 kg of syabu worth RM2.581 million and arresting six individuals. The first operation on August 19 in Papar led to four arrests, while the second on August 25 in Penampang resulted in two more arrests.
