American Jessie Irvine won both the women's and mixed doubles titles at the Leapmotor Kuala Lumpur Cup at The Hood in Kuala Lumpur. She and Alix Truong beat the Australian pair Sahra Dennehy and Danni-elle Townsend in the women's final, then Irvine partnered Bolivia's Gabriel Tardio to take the mixed doubles against Townsend and Joey Wild.

American 15-year-old Tama Shimabukuro beat France's Noe Khlif 11-8, 11-5 to win the men's singles at the Leapmotor Kuala Lumpur Cup, held at The Hood in Kuala Lumpur. Shimabukuro had earlier beaten Malaysian No. 1 Jimmy Liong 12-10, 11-4 in the round of 16.

Minister: athletes' mental state good, six-gold Asian Games target achievable
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the national contingent's mental preparation is in good shape ahead of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. He is confident the six-gold target can be met and said SOPs and contingency steps are in place, including contact with Japanese authorities over unsettled weather in Nagoya. Youth and Sports Minister Dr Taufiq Johari beat Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil in the Oxyenergy Media Prima Merdeka Run at Balai Berita in Kuala Lumpur. About 1,500 participants joined the 3km and 5km categories, including a special category for persons with disabilities. Taufiq offered Fahmi a rematch and said such events promote healthier lifestyles and national unity.

Aniq Kasdan adjusts to 65kg category in hunt for LA28 ticket
National weightlifter Aniq Kasdan is adapting to the 65kg category after the 60kg class was dropped from the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. He will compete at the 2026 World Weightlifting Championships in October and the first IWF Olympic qualifier in Doha, Qatar in December.

Mekdi National Takraw League 2026 opens in October across three cities
The Mekdi National Takraw League 2026 will open competition in Seremban, Sungai Petani and Gong Badak from October, with the final in Kuala Lumpur in November. Gajah Emas Industries managing director Kevin Lim welcomed the under-16 league as a platform for grassroots sepak takraw development. UPM overall champions of SUKIPT 2026, Sultan of Selangor congratulates
Universiti Putra Malaysia won the overall title at SUKIPT 2026 with 35 gold, 20 silver and 15 bronze medals, ahead of UiTM and hosts Universiti Malaya. The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, as UPM Chancellor, congratulated the contingent. The 7th edition ended at Dewan Tuanku Canselor, Universiti Malaya on Sept 6, with 46 meet records and two national records broken.

BAM open to Zii Jia training with existing players, says Tengku Zafrul
BAM president Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the association's doors are open to Lee Zii Jia to train with existing players. He said the decision rests with Zii Jia, while BAM is focusing on young players and preparations for the 2027 SEA Games and LA28 Olympics. Sabah ITF Taekwon-Do brings home 31 medals from Hwa Rang Warrior Asia Cup 2026
Sabah's 56-member ITF Taekwon-Do contingent, represented by three clubs, returned with 31 medals from the Hwa Rang Warrior Asia Cup 2026 held at Stadium Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur from Sept 4 to 6. They finished 16th among 59 teams with four golds, 10 silvers and 17 bronzes. Contingent chief Osmaiza Osman said the initial target of 10 golds was not met but praised the athletes, coaches and officials for their commitment.

Singapore race walker past 60 wins gold at international meet
Singapore's R. Subramaniam, who took up race walking at 15 and returned to it at 40, won gold in the 20km walk at an international athletics meet on Aug 29, with his team taking bronze in the 10km a week earlier. He represented Singapore at the 2005 international 24-hour race walking event in Genting, Malaysia, and has been listed ten times in the Singapore Book of Records.

Perak athlete Chew Jit Thye successfully defended his badminton WH1 (wheelchair) gold medal at the Selangor 2026 Para Malaysia Games at the Selangor Youth and Sports Complex in Shah Alam. The 27-year-old won all four matches without dropping a set. He now trains at the Kampung Pandan Paralympic Sports Excellence Centre and aims for the Paralympics.
