Green turtle size at Pulau Redang shrinks, UMT study finds
A Universiti Malaysia Terengganu study found the average size of green turtles nesting at Pulau Redang fell from 100.8cm in 2005 to 96.8cm in 2022, with estimated weight dropping from 120kg to 105kg. Although nest numbers rose from 300 to 2,000 a year, researchers raised questions about habitat carrying capacity and changes in turtle population structure.

Terengganu proposes 2-year closure of 4 Redang coral sites after 80% damage
Four snorkelling and diving sites around Pulau Redang in Terengganu have been proposed for a two-year closure to allow severely damaged coral reefs to recover. The proposal, submitted by resort operators and Reef Check Malaysia, cites over 80% coral damage at the sites, primarily due to human activities like tourists touching corals and boats dropping anchors. State tourism committee chairman Datuk Razali Idris said the proposal will be discussed with federal agencies.

Father in Besut arrested for alleged sexual assault of two teenage daughters
A 50-year-old father was arrested in Pasir Akar, Besut, at around 12:40 am for allegedly sexually assaulting his two daughters, aged 16 and 17. The suspect is remanded from today until September 12 on orders from the Besut Magistrate's Court, and the case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
