A 14-year-old boy allegedly approached a nine-year-old girl in Bukit Batok on Aug. 28 and displayed sexually inappropriate behaviour. The police have confirmed a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.

Singapore's F-35 fleet to cost US$4.06b; eight jets to be based at Tengah, rest in US
A US Department of War report has disclosed that Singapore's acquisition of 20 F-35 stealth fighters and related equipment cost US$4.06 billion. Eight of the jets, the F-35As, will be based at Tengah Air Base in Singapore, while the twelve F-35Bs will be permanently stationed at Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Arkansas, US. The first jets are expected to be delivered to the US at the end of 2026, with Singapore housing them locally only in 2029.

Malaysian jailed 15 weeks for smuggling 1,050 etomidate-laced pods through Woodlands Checkpoint
A 42-year-old Malaysian man, Ji Saow Hua, was sentenced to 15 weeks' jail on Sept 3 for importing 1,050 etomidate-laced e-cigarette pods worth $73,500. He was caught at the Woodlands Checkpoint on July 4, 2025, after an auxiliary police officer found the pods in his motorcycle's rear carriage box. Ji had previously been fined for a similar offence in 2024.

Man, 59, arrested for alleged loanshark harassment at Choa Chu Kang flat
A 59-year-old man was arrested on Sep. 1 for allegedly harassing a resident by scattering shoes and leaving a bicycle lock at a flat along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5. Police identified him through camera images. He will be charged in court on Sep. 3 under the Moneylenders Act.

EU studies Singapore's Wolbachia mosquito method to fight dengue
European Union health officials visited a mosquito breeding facility in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore, on September 1 to study the city-state's Wolbachia project. The EU is exploring the method as climate change spreads dengue to warmer European regions. The project has reduced mosquito numbers in its release areas by 80 to 90 percent.

Police rescue two teenage girls from edge of Toa Payoh car park wall
Police in Singapore were called after two teenage girls were seen sitting on the edge of a seventh-floor car park wall in Toa Payoh. Officers persuaded both girls to safety, and they were taken to hospital and detained under the Mental Health Act.

Yishun 10 cinema to close in March 2027, redeveloped into mixed-use project with 110 homes
Singapore's first multiplex cinema, Yishun 10, will cease operations on 2 March 2027. Owner Frasers Property will redevelop the site into a mixed-use building with about 110 residential units, shops and a landscaped facility deck, expected to be completed by mid-2031.

Two hospitalised after kitchen fire in Yew Tee HDB flat; 20 evacuated
Two people were taken to hospital after a fire broke out in the kitchen of a 14th-floor HDB flat at Block 684D Choa Chu Kang Crescent on Sept 2. About 20 residents were evacuated as a precaution, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force extinguished the blaze with one water jet.
