His mother, Mdm Sapiah Yahaya, 62, is proud that Danish now travels independently by bus and MRT and does vocational training at a hotel in Orchard Road. The award recognises students in government-funded special education schools who overcome challenges.

  6. NUS student wins Prime Minister's Book Award for bilingual effort

    A National University of Singapore (NUS) student received the Prime Minister's Book Award at the NUS University Cultural Centre on 31 August. She was the only Malay/Muslim pre-university recipient at the Ministry of Education Special Awards ceremony, where 211 awards were given out. She hopes her experience will encourage other Malay students to value language and culture.
