Woman who set fire to Sembawang HDB doorway after breakup jailed five to six months
A 46-year-old woman set fire to the doorway of a 10th-floor HDB unit in Sembawang on June 30 after hallucinating that she was trapped following a breakup with her boyfriend. The fire damaged her ex-boyfriend's unit and a neighbour's windows, forced about 30 residents to evacuate, and caused over $10,000 in repairs. She pleaded guilty to intentional arson and was sentenced to five to six months' imprisonment.

4,646 domestic violence cases recorded January-July, Johor logs 823
A total of 4,646 domestic violence cases were recorded nationwide from January to July this year, with Johor logging 823 cases against 518 in the same period of 2025. Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Lim Hui Ying said prevention and access to help must be strengthened, citing the PRISMAnita referral service and the 24-hour Talian Kasih hotline 15999. She spoke at the launch of the Aku Wanita @ Domestic Violence well-being advocacy programme and the 2026 Johor PRISMAnita Open Day in Seri Alam.

Man found dead in 1.5m drain near SMK Tun Hussein Onn, Butterworth
A man was found dead in a 1.5-metre-deep drain near SMK Tun Hussein Onn on Jalan Siakap, Taman Kelisa Emas, Butterworth, today. The Perai Fire and Rescue Station received a call from police at 12.10pm to help lift the body, and the five-member operation ended at 12.47pm. The body was handed to police for further action.

SPCA tells pet owners to limit outdoor activity as PSI hits unhealthy 104
Singapore's SPCA on Sept 10 advised pet owners to cut short outdoor activities and walk animals in cooler, shaded routes as the 24-hour PSI in the central region reached 104 and the day's high hit 34.5 deg C at Sembawang. Foreign masseuse dies in fall from fourth floor fleeing MBJB raid
A 36-year-old foreign masseuse died after falling from the fourth floor of a shop house in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, Masai, Johor Bahru, while trying to flee an inspection by the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB).
