Cook dies after car skids into ditch on Jalan Sungai Moyan
A 41-year-old cook died after the Perodua Kenari he was driving skidded and flipped into a ditch on Jalan Sungai Moyan in Kuching early this morning. Jeffery Dion was pronounced dead at the scene by a Sarawak General Hospital assistant medical officer. Padawan police are investigating under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Daughter of FDS crash nurse vows to become doctor, following mother's wish
Euodia Then Suling, 15, daughter of nurse Debra Moset who died in the FDS helicopter crash at Long Lellang, Ulu Baram on 8 September, is determined to become a doctor as her mother urged. She received her mother's remains at the family home in Kampung Semadang, Padawan today. The crash killed all five people on board the BO-105 helicopter.

346 Batu Kawa constituents receive B2 licence aid
A total of 346 participants from the Batu Kawa state constituency received assistance under the 2026 Class B2 Driving Licence Assistance Programme at a ceremony in Kuching. Sarawak Deputy Premier Dr Sim Kui Hian said the programme helps people obtain licences legally and raises road safety awareness.

Hoan Gallery launches 'Under Sarawak Skies' with 100 artworks on Sept 16
Hoan Gallery at La Promenade Mall in Kuching will launch the 'Under Sarawak Skies' exhibition on Sept 16, featuring over 100 artworks by more than 30 regional and local artists. The exhibition runs until Nov 8 and includes a documentary preview, workshops and public programmes. It is supported by the Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Ministry.

Lab results awaited after mass fish deaths in Sarawak River near Kuching Waterfront
Large numbers of fish were found dead along the Sarawak River near the Kuching Waterfront and Kampung Gersik-Boyan on Saturday morning. State agencies including NREB, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Fisheries have taken water and fish samples for laboratory analysis. Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the cause cannot yet be speculated on and promised a thorough investigation.

House on Lorong Diplomatik in Kuching 80pc destroyed by fire, three residents safe
A house at Lot 2798, Lorong Diplomatik Line 1, Kuching was about 80 per cent destroyed by fire at around 9.47pm. Three residents were reported safe, while a neighbouring house was five per cent damaged by heat. The Petra Jaya fire station put out the blaze, which ended at 11.07pm.

39 Sarawak artists turn plain boxes into 60 artworks at Kuching exhibition
The Headbox (Art and/or Mask) Exhibition at Wesberly Galleria on Rubber Road West in Kuching features over 60 works by 39 local artists who were each given a plain box to transform. Curator Hung Chang Wong arranged the pieces in a zigzag 'Green Caterpillar' layout to explore themes of identity, history and perception.

KLFF and Luna Lights Wonderland in Kuching reopen as haze eases
The Kuching Lights & Floral Festival (KLFF) and Luna Lights Wonderland reopen to the public in Kuching today. Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) said the reopening follows an improvement in the haze in the city compared with two weeks ago. Kuching memorial marks 60 years since end of Konfrontasi
A ceremony was held at Batu Lintang Memorial Square in Kuching on Aug 27 to mark the 60th anniversary of the peace agreement between Indonesia and Malaysia that ended the Confrontation on Aug 11, 1966. It was attended by Malaysian armed forces personnel, Commonwealth servicemen from Britain, Australia, New Zealand and the Gurkhas, and veterans of the conflict. Rider, 61, dies after swerving around fallen tree into oncoming lane in Bau; driver flees
A 61-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision at 5.45am yesterday along a road in Kampung Bidi, Bau, Sarawak, after swerving into the opposite lane to avoid a tree lying across the road. The car driver fled the scene and police are hunting for them under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Stakan assemblyman wants every JKKK to keep fire extinguishers
Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim has proposed that every Village Development and Security Committee in his constituency be required to keep fire extinguishers at designated spots. Kuching retail outlet fire put out after 11 hours
A fire at a retail chain near Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce in Kuching was fully extinguished at 2.54pm today after burning for about 11 hours. The blaze destroyed the first floor and severely damaged the second floor of the building. Four people were involved but reported safe, and the cause and losses are still under investigation.

Man arrested over cable theft on Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin, tests positive for drugs
A 37-year-old man was arrested in Kampung Bintawa Ulu, Kuching, after he was suspected of stealing cable on Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin. The Kuching district police chief said the suspect has five prior criminal records and tested positive for drugs, and the case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code.
