Traffic police in Kuching impounded 99 motorcycles and issued 222 summonses during a nine-and-a-half-hour operation along Jalan Tun Sallehuddin. A 17-year-old rider was arrested for allegedly using a false licence plate, and 208 people and 187 vehicles were inspected.

Police arrest woman, 22, over unlicensed Kuching entertainment centre
Kuching police arrested a 22-year-old woman during a raid on an unlicensed entertainment centre along Jalan Lapangan Terbang late Friday night. Separately, a 41-year-old man died after his car crashed into a roadside ditch along Jalan Sungai Moyan early Saturday.

Lorry falls into drain at Jalan Mendu after unauthorised structure collapses, MBKS reminds owners to get approval
A seven-tonne lorry fell into a drain at Jalan Mendu in Kuching on Friday morning when an unauthorised structure covering the drain collapsed under its weight. Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who inspected the site, reminded property owners to obtain approval before building structures over public drains, citing Section 136 of the Local Authorities Ordinance 1996. The driver was not injured.

Sarawak takes 5,000 health worker shortfall to JPA
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said 18 per cent of health sector posts in the state, over 5,000 positions, remain unfilled. The matter has been raised with the Public Service Department and in MA63 talks, including a proposal for a special task force on local recruitment. He said Sarawak will keep pursuing health autonomy even though it requires amending 41 laws.

SCCS Childhood Cancer Walk moved to Nov 7 after haze postponement
The Sarawak Children's Cancer Society has rescheduled its Childhood Cancer Awareness Walk to Nov 7 after it was postponed because of the haze. Registration stays at RM50 per participant, with proceeds going to children with cancer and their families. Serian schools reopen tomorrow as haze eases, Lubok Antu stays on PdPR
Schools under the Serian District Education Office in Sarawak will resume normal operations from Sept 14 after air quality improved, the state education department said. Schools under Lubok Antu will continue home-based learning, while the other 12 district education offices in the state also reopen. Face masks will be distributed to affected schools and outdoor activities remain suspended when the API exceeds 100.

Lab results awaited after mass fish deaths in Sarawak River near Kuching Waterfront
Large numbers of fish were found dead along the Sarawak River near the Kuching Waterfront and Kampung Gersik-Boyan on Saturday morning. State agencies including NREB, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Fisheries have taken water and fish samples for laboratory analysis. Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the cause cannot yet be speculated on and promised a thorough investigation.

AIM25 makes history in Sarawak, finale at BCCK Kuching on Sept 26

Kuching memorial marks 60 years since end of Konfrontasi
A ceremony was held at Batu Lintang Memorial Square in Kuching on Aug 27 to mark the 60th anniversary of the peace agreement between Indonesia and Malaysia that ended the Confrontation on Aug 11, 1966. It was attended by Malaysian armed forces personnel, Commonwealth servicemen from Britain, Australia, New Zealand and the Gurkhas, and veterans of the conflict.
