In Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 8), Workers' Party MP Kenneth Tiong (Aljunied) questioned whether Singapore Airlines' losses on Air India could affect its ability to provide essential air services in Singapore. Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow replied that there is no present threat to SIA's Singapore operations and that Air India's request for capital does not oblige SIA to provide it, while online commenters said Tiong was right to ask.

Johor Bahru court orders developer to pay RM10.57mil to 84 Princess Cove buyers
The Johor Bahru High Court has ordered R&F Development Sdn Bhd to pay about RM10.57 million in compensation to 84 owners of Princess Cove condominium units over late delivery of their homes. Judge Wong Mee Ling ruled that amendments to the sale and purchase agreements made by the developer without buyers' consent were invalid, and dismissed claims by 39 other plaintiffs who signed their agreements after the building plans were amended.

Kavimalai's 'Beach Road Poetry Walk' took place at East Coast Park in Singapore last Saturday (Sept 5) from 5pm to 9pm. A 43-year-old man says he was pushed off his bicycle and punched several times along a bicycle path at Block 123 Bedok North Street 2 on Sep 8. He was taken to Changi General Hospital for an X-ray, and a 27-year-old man is assisting police with investigations.

Indonesian crew member jailed eight weeks for smuggling ivory tusk into Singapore
A 30-year-old Indonesian ship crew member, Hafiludin, was sentenced to eight weeks' jail in Singapore on Thursday after he was caught bringing a 550g elephant ivory tusk into the country. He had hidden the tusk in a thermos flask and was stopped during an X-ray screening at the Keppel Entrance Crew office on Aug 9. He had bought the tusk from a merchant in Lagos, Nigeria, for US$150 and lacked the required permits.
