Labourer gets nine months for disposing of stolen Proton rims in Penampang
A 29-year-old labourer was jailed nine months by the Magistrate's Court in Kota Kinabalu after pleading guilty to helping dispose of three stolen Proton Saga rims worth RM300. The rims were taken from a roadside along the Pan Borneo Highway at Kampung Mansiang in Manggatal, and the man led police to a scrap metal shop in Penampang where they were sold. In a separate case, a woman was fined RM2,000 for failing to comply with a Consumer Claims Tribunal award.

Three men remanded over Ranau assault and drug find
Three local men aged 22 to 27 were remanded for four days by the Ranau Magistrate's Court over an alleged assault and criminal intimidation at a parking area near Kiaburi Plaza on Sept 4. Police also seized a packet of suspected syabu during the investigation and opened a separate probe under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Keningau quakes expose gaps in Sabah fault mapping, geologist says
A series of small earthquakes in Keningau has shown that the district's fault systems are far less mapped than those in Ranau, geologist Prof Emeritus Dr Felix Tongkul said. He said the tremors are small and no major quake is imminent, but called for more detailed studies and stronger seismic monitoring in Sabah's interior.

Kundasang golf club eyes homegrown talent after 90-player Merdeka meet
The Kundasang Highland Golf and Recreation Club held its Kundasang Merdeka Golf Tournament 2026 at Mount Kinabalu Golf Club in Kundasang, Ranau, drawing 90 golfers on Sept 2 and 3. Club president Suhilin Hadi said the event is a platform to nurture local golfers who could one day represent Kundasang nationally and internationally. Junairy Doupin won the gross title, Hasidi Suning topped the nett category and Azuan Asrin took the beginner category.

Psychiatrist defends diary assessment in Zara Qairina inquest
At the Coroner's Court in Kota Kinabalu, forensic psychiatrist Dr Chua Sze Hung testified that he also considered positive aspects in the diary of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir. He explained that numerical scoring is not helpful in psychological assessment and stressed the importance of understanding contextual details. Sabah Parks to probe Croatian climber's permitless Mount Kinabalu entry
Sabah Parks will investigate how a Croatian tourist entered the Mount Kinabalu area without a permit via an unofficial village route.
