Dr Sivanesan Letchumanan elected new president of Malaysian Medical Association
At the Malaysian Medical Association's annual general meeting in Ipoh, Dr Sivanesan Letchumanan took over as its new president. He said retaining government doctors and improving career paths, working conditions and specialist training for medical graduates would be his main goals. He also paid tribute to the five people, including four health workers, killed in a recent flying doctor helicopter crash in Ulu Baram, Sarawak, and called for better protection for staff in remote areas.

MMA president: retaining doctors is top priority
The Malaysian Medical Association's new president, Dr Sivanaesan Letchumanan, said retaining doctors in the public healthcare system is the association's top priority. Speaking at the MMA annual banquet in Ipoh, he called for better career progression, working conditions and specialisation pathways, and urged the government to use private GPs more in tackling non-communicable diseases.

Japan health minister visits Perkeso rehabilitation centre in Ipoh
Japan's Health Minister Kenichiro Ueno visited the Sultan Nazrin Shah PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre in Meru Raya, Ipoh, praising its vocational training and return-to-work model. He noted the centre's use of Japanese HAL rehabilitation technology and hoped it could be introduced to more Malaysian facilities. PERKESO officials said the visit could strengthen Malaysia-Japan cooperation in rehabilitation technology and training.
