UPSI expands Kadazandusun, Iban and Semai as degree majors
Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Tanjong Malim, Perak, became the first Malaysian higher education institution to offer tertiary programmes in Kadazandusun and Iban in 2010, and in 2024 expanded these plus Semai into majors under its Bachelor of Education. Lecturers Julita Norjietta Taisin and Saripah Anak Banseng say a shortage of trained teachers and dwindling daily use threaten the languages, and that more learning materials and digital content are needed.

Lovely Sabana registers as UPSI student
Lovely Sabana Augustine, 20, from Tumpat, Kelantan, has registered as a Bachelor of Education student at Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) in Tanjong Malim, Perak. She scored a perfect 4.00 CGPA in STPM and received financial assistance after her story went viral in August. She aims to become an educator and improve her family's livelihood.

UPSI helps new student stranded in Batang Kali
A new UPSI student was stranded in Batang Kali, Selangor after her family's vehicle broke down on the way to Tanjung Malim for registration. UPSI sent a team to help, repaired the vehicle, provided accommodation and dinner, and gave RM2,232.35 in semester aid plus RM500 in alms.

UPM farm boy leads team to Formula SAE Japan 2026
Aliman Zafran Yuslaimi, 23, from Subang, Selangor, started by repairing an old motorcycle engine at his family's oil palm estate in Kampung Serigala, Hulu Bernam. He now captains the Putra Motorsport Team from Universiti Putra Malaysia, which competed at Formula SAE Japan 2026 in Aichi, Japan, last August.
