SMART researchers identify first PLP-dependent enzyme AvaS in bacteria
Researchers at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART), with MIT, NTU Singapore and partners in the US, Poland and France, have identified AvaS, the first known PLP-dependent enzyme that produces a tRNA modification in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Published in Nature Chemical Biology, the finding opens new ways to study how bacteria adapt and resist antibiotics.
