Melaka High Court refuses to record RM1.7mil road accident settlement

The High Court in Melaka refused to record a proposed consent judgment settling a RM1.7 million negligence suit because the victim, Sultan Nur Mohamad, is permanently disabled and lacks capacity to manage his own affairs. Judicial Commissioner K Raja Segaran said the court must first approve the settlement under Order 76 rule 10 of the Rules of Court 2012, and directed the respondents to file a proper application by today, with the hearing fixed for Sept 17. The case arose from a March 2, 2024 collision between two motorcycles in which Sultan suffered severe traumatic brain injuries.
