Penang council uses crane vehicle to remove abandoned cars

The Penang Island City Council is using a multi-purpose loader with a crane, acquired in 2022, to remove abandoned vehicles that ordinary tow trucks cannot handle, such as those without tyres or wedged between cars. Mayor Datuk A. Rajendran said the equipment is not used for routine illegal parking cases, and the council has other vehicles for conventional towing. The practice drew attention online after a motorist's post, and Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan said abandoned vehicles have been cleared over two weeks with MBPP and other agencies.
