Manchester United were knocked out of the English League Cup third round after losing 3-2 to Brighton at Old Trafford on Wednesday. United led 2-0 inside 10 minutes through Shea Lacey and Mason Mount, but Brighton fought back with goals from Charalampos Kostoulas, Pascal Gross and Maxim De Cuyper. It was United's second successive home defeat and leaves manager Michael Carrick under mounting pressure.
