Switch box fire cuts power to Jalan Riong eatery in Bangsar
A fire in an electrical switch box at a popular eatery on Jalan Riong in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, left the premises without electricity this afternoon. The Pantai fire and rescue station received a call at 1.11pm and the public put out the fire, which involved only the switch box. Business was halted pending restoration of power needed for the point-of-sale system.

Teen acquitted of Bandar Utama schoolmate's murder, sent to Ulu Kinta psychiatric hospital
The Shah Alam High Court on Monday acquitted a 15-year-old boy of murdering his 16-year-old schoolmate in a toilet at a secondary school in Bandar Utama last year, finding he was of unsound mind at the time. The judge ordered him detained at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak at the pleasure of the Sultan of Selangor. His lawyer said the family is relieved he will receive psychiatric treatment for severe schizophrenia.

Papagomo's bid to delay RM280,000 payment to Guan Eng and son rejected
The High Court in Kuala Lumpur dismissed blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris's application to stay a RM280,000 defamation judgment in favour of Lim Guan Eng and his son. Justice Roslan Mat Nor found no special circumstances to justify the stay and ordered Wan Azri to pay RM5,000 in costs.

Foreign workers occupy KL apartment utility rooms, run illegal motorcycle repair
At an affordable housing apartment on Jalan Ipoh in Kuala Lumpur, seven or eight Bangladeshi workers have been occupying equipment and pump rooms as living quarters and workshops, storing motorcycle tyres, black oil and petrol, and running an illegal motorcycle repair operation. Residents say one was seen showering in a women's toilet near the pool, and they have lodged three police reports and referred the matter to the COB, the strata management tribunal and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

DAP urges AGC to brief family of teen killed in Bandar Utama school stabbing
DAP is pressing the Attorney General's Chambers to hold an official briefing for the family of a 16-year-old killed in a stabbing at a school in Bandar Utama. The call follows Monday's acquittal of a 15-year-old boy accused of the killing, after the Shah Alam High Court found he was of unsound mind at the time. DAP Women's chief Teo Nie Ching said the family deserves a full explanation of the ruling and whether the prosecution will appeal.

AGC: dropping four Muhyiddin charges avoided risk to other cases
The Attorney-General's Chambers said in a statement that proceeding with one predicate offence and three money laundering charges against Muhyiddin Yassin could have undermined its strategy for the other charges he still faces. The Kuala Lumpur High Court acquitted Muhyiddin after the prosecution applied for a discharge not amounting to an acquittal without giving a specific reason. DAP's Gobind Singh Deo had called for the attorney-general to explain the decision.

KPJ Healthcare has discontinued its legal action against seven of 11 former directors over the RM119.92 million sale of a 49% stake in Lablink in 2018. Motorcyclist dies after skidding on Sultan Iskandar Highway

Bandar Utama school stabbing: 15-year-old boy freed after mental disorder defence
A 15-year-old boy accused of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old schoolgirl in Bandar Utama last year has been acquitted of murder by the Shah Alam High Court on grounds of mental disorder. The court accepted the defence under Section 84 of the Penal Code that he was temporarily insane at the time. He will receive medication and counselling at a mental hospital until medical officers assess him fit to rejoin society.

Former Buycar2u director charged with 71 counts of cheating RM4.7mil
A former director of a used-car trading company, Kee Cher Kian, 34, pleaded not guilty at three Sessions Courts in Kuala Lumpur to 71 cheating charges involving RM4.7 million. The charges relate to businessman Wong Yoong Jed and transactions at several bank branches in Kuala Lumpur between 5 July and 3 August 2022. The court set bail totalling RM215,000 with one surety and fixed mention for 16 October.
