About 2,000 Singtel, StarHub and M1 broadband users in parts of Bishan and Thomson lost fibre service after a third-party contractor damaged multiple NetLink Trust cables. NetLink Trust says restoration is under way and should be complete by Wednesday morning.

A fibre connection cut on Tuesday (Sept 15) caused temporary internet disruption for customers of Singtel, StarHub and M1 in Singapore. NetLink Trust said about 1,200 users in Bishan and Thomson may have been affected, and it is working with telcos to restore service.

KPDN seizes 2,400 litres of diesel at Senai petrol station, two held
Enforcement officers from KPDN stopped an attempt to misappropriate about 2,400 litres of diesel at a petrol station on Jalan Seelong in Senai, Johor. Two local men in their 30s were detained and items worth about RM60,660 were seized, including a lorry with a storage tank, IBC tanks, pumps and fleet cards. The petrol station operator is also suspected of an offence under the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974.

Go-Ahead Singapore is stepping up training and operational support for bus captains after commuters in Tampines complained of longer and less predictable waits since the operator took over 29 services on July 19. A 28-year-old woman was sentenced to 19 weeks and three days' jail and fined S$5,000 for keeping illegally imported puppies in captivity for sale, in Singapore's first such case. She and her husband smuggled puppies from Malaysia and sold 21 of them for about S$21,000 between October and December 2023.

Safety drivers behind the wheel of autonomous vehicles in Punggol say their role is far more demanding than passengers assume, requiring constant alertness and the ability to take over at any moment. Both Grab-WeRide and ComfortDelGro-Pony.ai run public AV shuttle trials in Punggol, with Grab planning to grow its fleet from 10 to 50 vehicles and a Bill tabled in parliament to extend the AV regulatory sandbox to end-2028.

Safety operators keep watch as driverless shuttles run in Punggol
In Punggol, 24-year-old Sherman Seng works as a safety operator for Zig Driverless, a ComfortDelGro unit, monitoring autonomous shuttle rides that began in April. He and 12 other operators watch for vehicle errors, take manual control when needed and feed problems back to engineers. Seng trained three weeks in Guangzhou before operating the shuttles.

26 litterers, 14 of them foreigners, ordered to clean Johor public spaces
Twenty-six people convicted of littering, 25 of them for cigarette butts, were ordered to perform community service at five locations across Johor. SWCorp said 3,095 littering notices have been issued in the state since Aug 1, with 107 cases concluded in court and RM71,550 in fines.

Fisherman's early return ends in fatal crash at KM31.2 Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang
A 58-year-old factory manager was killed in a two-vehicle crash at KM31.2 of Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang on Sunday evening after rough seas forced his fishing group to return from Pulau Aur a day early. Two others in the other car also died. The victim's daughter said he had kept in touch with family throughout his trips.

Woodlands North RTS station finished, cross-border service set for 2027
Singapore's Land Transport Authority said on Sept 4 that the Woodlands North station on the Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link is complete, keeping the line on track to start passenger service in 2027. The 4km link will join Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru to Woodlands North, where travellers can transfer to the Thomson-East Coast MRT Line, with capacity for 10,000 passengers an hour each way. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said Malaysian-side station and rail infrastructure is finished and integration testing between the two countries has begun.

A 31-year-old Singaporean man, Cheong Melvin, was sentenced to 13 weeks' jail, fined S$3,400 and disqualified from driving for five years after driving while suspended and showing police a screenshot of a former employee's driving licence. He had reversed into another car at Cardiff Grove in Serangoon Garden on Jan 26, 2025, and also abandoned a vehicle on an expressway after a separate crash.

Johor Bahru High Court quashes RM78.7m IRB tax assessments on Adamas Marine
The Johor Bahru High Court has quashed about RM78.7 million in tax assessments and penalties imposed on shipowner Adamas Marine Sdn Bhd. Judicial Commissioner Budiman Lutfi Mohamed ruled that the Inland Revenue Board used the wrong framework to determine ownership of the company's 16 Malaysian-registered ships, and ordered the assessments from 2007 to 2023 to be set aside.

Grab to grow AV fleet to 50 vehicles, expand beyond Punggol
Grab will expand its autonomous vehicle fleet from 10 to 50 over the next six months and is preparing an on-demand point-to-point service in Punggol, with plans to extend to other parts of Singapore subject to regulatory approval. A factory manager, Mohd Noor Selamat, 58, died in a two-vehicle crash at Kilometre 31.2 of the Kota Tinggi-Kluang road yesterday evening. A married couple in a Perodua Axia also died. His body is to be buried at Taman Sri Lambak Muslim cemetery in Kluang today.
