Wild elephant believed hit by vehicle at KM160 Jalan Jerangau-Jabor
A wild elephant is believed to have been hit by a vehicle at KM160 of Jalan Jerangau-Jabor near Jabor Estate, Dungun, last night. Terengganu Perhilitan sent five staff to track and inspect the elephant, thought to have strayed from the Bukit Bandi-Cerul Protected Forest. Three people sustained minor injuries in a two-car accident after one vehicle hit the elephant.

API readings exceed 150 at three Terengganu stations
Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at three monitoring stations in Terengganu - Paka, Kuala Terengganu and Kemaman - simultaneously exceeded 150. Air quality expert Assoc Prof Azman Azid of UniSZA said the increase suggests possible regional pollutant transport and requires further analysis including hotspot data and the MyCMAQ model.

Car hits elephant on Jerangau-Jabor road, husband and wife injured
A husband and wife were slightly injured after their Perodua Ativa hit an elephant at Kilometre 160 of Jalan Jerangau-Jabor near Bandar Cheneh Baru, Kemaman, last night. The couple were travelling from Kuantan towards Kuala Terengganu when the elephant crossed the road, and a Perodua Myvi behind them also hit the rear of their car. Both victims were taken to Kemaman Hospital's emergency unit.

Missing 16-year-old girl last seen leaving home in Dungun
Nurul Batrisyia Hazwani Jamil, 16, has been missing since leaving her home in Kampung Alur Tempoyak, Dungun, around 9pm on 7 September. Dungun police are searching for her with help from patrol units and nearby stations, and ask anyone with information to contact the police or the investigating officer.

500 hawksbill turtle hatchlings released at Kertih turtle sanctuary
A total of 500 one-day-old hawksbill turtle hatchlings were released into the sea at the Ma' Daerah Kertih Turtle Sanctuary in Terengganu today under the 2026 Nature Sustainability Programme organised by the Terengganu branch of the Girl Guides Association Malaysia. The Regent of Terengganu, Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, released several hatchlings and called on the public to protect the environment and marine ecosystems.

Fire at Pulau Tenggol jetty parking area damages 11 cars
A fire broke out at the Pulau Tenggol public jetty parking area near Jalan Rajawali in Dungun, Terengganu on Saturday afternoon, affecting 11 cars. Two vehicles, a Perodua Myvi and a Mitsubishi ASX, were about 90 per cent destroyed, while nine others sustained minimal damage. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Leatherback turtle lands and lays 81 eggs at Rantau Abang beach
A leatherback turtle came ashore and laid 81 eggs at Pantai Rantau Abang in Dungun early this morning, the second such landing in Terengganu this year. The eggs were handed to the Fisheries Department for incubation at the Rantau Abang Turtle Conservation Centre hatchery and are expected to hatch in 50 to 70 days.

Baby boy's body found in hostel locker in Dungun
The body of a baby boy was found in a locker at a hostel of an educational institution in Dungun, Terengganu, last night. Early investigations suggest the baby died shortly after being delivered by a 19-year-old student in the hostel toilet last Wednesday, and the student is now being treated at a hospital. The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth.

Missing fisherman's boat found on seabed off Dungun, Sabrie still missing
A fibreglass boat belonging to a fisherman missing off Dungun since Aug 27 was found on the seabed today at a depth of about 30 to 34 metres. The victim, Sabrie Rusli, 32, has not been found and the search and rescue operation continues with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency involved.

1906 stone inscription in Kemasik records Hainanese settlement from 1888
A granite stone with Chinese carvings from the Guang Xu dynasty in 1906 has been found at Kampung Air Jernih in Kemasik, Terengganu, believed brought by traders from Hainan, China. It is now kept at the Kemasik Hainanese Association building and is seen as a potential heritage attraction.
