Jaecoo J5 EV launched in Malaysia from RM118,800
OMODA Jaecoo Malaysia has launched the Jaecoo J5 EV, its first fully electric model here, priced at RM118,800 on-the-road without insurance. The single-variant EV is locally assembled at Chery Corporate Malaysia's plant in Shah Alam, offering up to 402km of WLTP range from a 58.9kWh battery. A launch package worth RM10,000 is offered for the first 1,000 units registered by October 31.

Spideraya concert moved to Idea Live Arena Petaling Jaya over haze
The organiser of Konsert Spideraya has moved the Spider concert from Stadium Hoki Bukit Jalil to Idea Live Arena in Petaling Jaya. B7 Resources Sdn Bhd said the change was made because of air pollution, unstable weather and the current haze, but the date and time remain unchanged. Tickets already bought are still valid.

The High Court in Shah Alam dismissed a lorry driver's appeal against the Director-General of Manpower's decision rejecting his claim for RM19,604 in salary in lieu of notice and termination benefits. The court found R. A. Murugan, 55, had breached his employment contract by staying away from work for more than two consecutive working days after May 13, 2024.

UM to launch 121st anniversary celebration on Sept 19

Box with toy blocks destroyed by bomb squad in Bandar Baru Sri Petaling
A suspicious plastic box found in front of a shoplot in Bandar Baru Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, was destroyed by a police bomb disposal unit on Monday afternoon. Initial checks showed a high radiation reading, prompting the deployment of the Bomb Disposal Unit and the Bukit Aman CBRNE unit, but the Malaysian Nuclear Agency later confirmed no radioactivity. Transport Minister Anthony Loke launched the M.V.15 CARSOME Academy inspection centre in Sungai Buloh today. He said private inspection centres meeting JPJ standards can cut congestion and waiting times for vehicle ownership transfers to under 20 minutes. The battle for the King of the Mountain jersey at Le Tour de Langkawi 2026 is expected to stay fierce until the final stages after Hors Classe points at Cameron Highlands and Genting Highlands were raised to 25 from 15. LTdL chief operating officer Emir Abdul Jalal said the three summit finishes at Gunung Jerai, Cameron Highlands and Genting Highlands will be key, with climbing zones in stages six and eight still offering points. The race runs from 27 September to 4 October over eight stages covering 1,285.5 kilometres.

Bandar Utama school stabbing: 15-year-old boy freed after mental disorder defence
A 15-year-old boy accused of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old schoolgirl in Bandar Utama last year has been acquitted of murder by the Shah Alam High Court on grounds of mental disorder. The court accepted the defence under Section 84 of the Penal Code that he was temporarily insane at the time. He will receive medication and counselling at a mental hospital until medical officers assess him fit to rejoin society.
