PERKESO is organising the Mega i LINDUNG u Festival at Strand Mall Damansara from 18 to 20 September. The festival aims to raise public awareness about social protection, employment and financial planning. Tengku Datuk Khalidah Tengku Bidin of PERKESO said many people know protection matters but have not taken steps to plan it.

Two FELDA retirees in FELDA Jaya Trolak, Sungkai, have been growing chillies commercially under fertigation for five years as post-retirement income. The 2,500-plant project on 0.5 hectares receives fertiliser, coco peat and pesticide aid from the Perak Agriculture Department.

Butterfield FB eyes liquid coffee range after ACE Market listing
Butterfield FB Bhd is planning to expand from premixed powders into liquid beverages, particularly coffee, after its ACE Market debut in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. The company's shares opened at 43 sen against an IPO price of 48 sen, and were trading at 42.5 sen at the time of writing. It posted a net profit of RM6.47 million on revenue of RM69.7 million for its first quarter ended July 31, 2026.

1Razak Mansion residents turn abandoned Salak South plot into 'Food Forest'
Residents of 1Razak Mansion in Salak South, Kuala Lumpur have spent eight months turning a 560-square-foot abandoned plot behind Block B into a 'Food Forest' of more than 80 plant, vegetable and herb species. The project, involving 60 residents and led by social entrepreneur Dr Billy Tang, has become a gathering spot for gardening, cooking and neighbourly contact, and also supports recycling, composting and rehabilitation of Sungai Kerayong.

SUPP Bawang Assan team visits 10 Lebaan households for Mid-Autumn
A SUPP Bawang Assan Branch mobile team visited 10 households in the Lebaan area of Sibu on Sunday (Sept 13) to hand out mooncakes ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Led by branch chairman Kevin Lau Kor Jie, the team also heard residents' concerns, including road conditions along Jalan Yew Chai Toh, and viewed old photographs from 1996 tied to Chinese education in Sibu.

The inaugural Brooks Marathon Kuala Lumpur 2026 will be held at Sepang International Circuit this Sunday, targeting 7,000 participants across three distance categories. Organiser Brooks Malaysia aims for over 10,000 runners by the third edition, with participants from across Malaysia and more than 30 countries.

Sabah Malaysia Day celebration moved indoors to SICC over weather concerns
The Sabah-level Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16 will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu instead of Padang Merdeka due to unpredictable weather and safety concerns. Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the decision follows last year's rain disruption, with about 3,000 people expected. The national celebration will be in Kuching, Sarawak.

A wellness centre in Kuala Lumpur is offering free health screenings worth RM500,000 to the first 1,000 Malaysians, available until Nov 30 or while the allocation lasts. The checks, part of the government's Hari Kebangsaan Hari Malaysia campaign, cover arterial stiffness, vitamin and mineral analysis and microcirculation. The founder said preventive health should be routine rather than a response to feeling unwell.

Trade chief: Don't buy tyres online on price alone
Malaysian Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry president Ng Kian Weng warned consumers in Seremban that cheap foreign tyres bought online may lack safety and quality guarantees. FIF Mr Perak 2026 will introduce special categories for persons with disabilities (OKU) and Body Transformation at its inaugural edition in Perak. 500 attend smart farming and black pepper course in Tambunan
More than 500 people joined a smart farming and black pepper cultivation course in Tambunan, Sabah, organised by Sawit Kinabalu. The course, held for the first time at SMK Tambunan, introduced farmers and agro-entrepreneurs to technology such as smartphones and CCTV for crop monitoring. Deputy Chairman Datuk Victor P Paut said the approach, inspired by farming in Hokkaido, Japan, could help Tambunan become a modern agricultural hub.

Sabah urged to review Moto Day format after complaints
A Sabah assemblyman has called on the state government to review the format, venue and operating conditions of Sabah Moto Day after public complaints over traffic congestion, noise and littering. The event, now in its ninth edition, drew thousands of motorcyclists over the weekend. A DAP senator also urged designated noise control zones away from residential areas.
