AFC audit report to be handed to new FAM exco after Sept 17 election
The incoming FA of Malaysia leadership will receive a full Asian Football Confederation governance audit report after the Sept 17 election-cum-congress, AFC general-secretary Datuk Seri Windsor Paul confirmed. The audit found FAM had not tabled annual budgets to congress since 2016 and that up to 70 per cent of spending went to staff costs and national team campaigns, starving grassroots and technical pathways.

Tennis players drop public campaign, form council with Grand Slams
Top tennis players said they will stop publicly campaigning for more influence and prize money from the four Grand Slams, and will instead pursue their goals through a new Player Advisory Council. YPM FC win inaugural Pahang People's Football League
YPM FC became the first champions of the Pahang Liga Bola Sepak Rakyat after beating Majlis Daerah Raub FC 2-1 in the final at Darul Makmur Stadium, Kuantan. Goals from Wan Muhammad Akmal Hakim Wahab and Nasyrullah Mohd Zaki sealed the Al-Sultan Abdullah Cup and RM40,000. The league, which began on June 6, drew 105 teams and 2,600 players under 19.

Asian Games accommodation shortage hits Nagoya as teams scramble for rooms
South Korea's Olympic committee says there is a serious shortage of accommodation at the Asian Games in Nagoya and Aichi, Japan, days before the opening ceremony. Organisers are using a cruise ship, temporary container huts and hotels after scrapping a dedicated athletes' village, and some Philippine officials have been moved to Airbnb. A South Korean basketballer posted video of a leaking sink and soaked floor in his hut.

BAM leaves door open for Zii Jia's return
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) says its door remains open for Lee Zii Jia to rejoin the national body, but the decision is up to the player. BAM president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said there are no plans for a special meeting with Zii Jia, who has not responded to an offer to train with the national squad.

Ecuador appoint Marcelo Gallardo as head coach
Ecuador have named Argentine Marcelo Gallardo as head coach of their national team, the Ecuadorian Football Federation announced. He replaces Sebastian Beccacece, whose contract was not renewed after Ecuador lost to Mexico in the World Cup round of 32 in June. Gallardo, 50, has been without a job since leaving River Plate in February.
