Ministry weighs OKU category for Rukun Negara speech contest
Malaysia's National Unity Ministry will consider adding a category for persons with disabilities to the Rukun Negara Speech Competition. Deputy Minister R Yuneswaran said the mechanism would be discussed with stakeholders after the national final at the Melaka International Trade Centre today. Chef dies after bicycle wheel caught in drain cover gap in Bukit Beruang
A 36-year-old chef, Ahmad Shasli Hassan, died after his bicycle's front wheel caught in the gap of an iron drain cover in Bukit Beruang, Melaka, causing him to fall and suffer severe head and facial injuries. The incident occurred at about 7.10pm on Monday, September 14; he was taken to Melaka Hospital and died at about 9pm, confirmed by the Melaka Tengah district police chief.

SMK Ghafar Baba wins Melaka pantun competition, advances to Southern Zone final in Johor Bahru
SMK Ghafar Baba emerged champion of the 2026 DRB-HICOM-Harian Metro Proverb-themed Pantun Competition at the Melaka state level, held in Banda Hilir. The school will represent Melaka at the Southern Zone final at Maktab Abu Bakar in Johor Bahru on Sept 29. More than 300 students attended the competition, which was judged by four professionals.

Dance teacher in Melaka remanded five days over sexual assault of two students
A 20-year-old dance teacher in Melaka has been remanded for five days to assist investigations into the physical sexual assault of two teenage boys who were also his students. Melaka: Treated water safe, don't panic - state government
A suspected human skeleton was found in a blue barrel filled with cement in the Durian Tunggal Dam reserve area in Melaka, and was reported to police at about 11.40am yesterday. Melaka State Secretary Datuk Salhah Salleh said water quality monitoring so far shows no breach of the required parameters, and urged the public not to panic or spread unverified information. Monitoring and sampling at the raw water source area will be stepped up with police and technical agencies.

A three-year-old boy was rescued safely after he became trapped inside a parked Honda in Taman Malacca Baru, Batu Berendam, Malacca, when the car doors locked automatically.
