Seventh orangutan rescued following forest fires in West Kalimantan

An adult male orangutan, named Sampurna, was rescued from a palm oil plantation in Desa Laman Satong, Ketapang, West Kalimantan, after being found weak and unconscious due to thick smoke from forest and land fires. The rescue team provided initial treatment and transferred the orangutan to a rehabilitation center for further examination. This is the seventh orangutan rescued by BKSDA and YIARI in August due to the fires, which have affected over 74,870 hectares across six priority regions.
