Federal Court allows government, police appeals in two lock-up suicide liability cases
The Federal Court in Putrajaya has granted the government and police leave to appeal in two separate cases where they were held liable for deaths in custody. The cases involve Mohd Fadzrin Zaidi, who died in a Seberang Perai Utara police lock-up in 2019, and M. Thinagaran, who died at an MMEA lock-up in Klang. The appeals will focus on legal questions regarding duty of care and foreseeability in detainee suicides.
