Rising healthcare use drives medical claim inflation, says LIAM
The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) says increased use of healthcare services is a major contributor to medical claim inflation in Malaysia, which reached 12.28 per cent in 2025. Its CEO Mark O'Dell said the insurance and takaful industry paid RM13.5 billion in medical claims in 2025, up from RM12.2 billion in 2024. He stressed that medical claim inflation is not the same as treatment cost inflation, and Malaysians should not cut back on necessary care.
