Proposal to use idle wakaf land for affordable housing
A property practitioner has proposed amending the National Land Code to allow wakaf land to be developed as affordable housing through long-term registered leases. He said about 30,000 hectares of wakaf land worth RM4 billion remain idle, with 87 per cent undeveloped. The proposal would let state Islamic religious councils retain ownership while developers build homes at lower prices.
