Zambry: Auku replacement Act being fast-tracked, briefings held with select committee

Higher education minister Zambry Abd Kadir said the ministry is expediting the drafting of a new Act to replace the Universities and University Colleges Act (Auku) 1971, retaining provisions on university establishment. Briefings are being held with the parliamentary select committee on nation building, education and human resources development. The move follows the prime minister's August announcement that Auku would be abolished and not replaced with legislation restricting student freedom.
