BNM and Japan sign local-currency pact and US$6 billion swap deal
Bank Negara Malaysia and Japan's Ministry of Finance have signed a memorandum of cooperation to promote local-currency settlement in cross-border trade and investment. Separately, BNM and the Bank of Japan signed a third bilateral swap arrangement worth up to US$6 billion, taking effect on Sept 18, 2026. The two agreements aim to deepen financial cooperation and enhance regional financial stability.
