Man and woman arrested in Toa Payoh after drugs and weapons found in car
A 31-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were arrested in Toa Payoh on Sept 4 after police found weapons, suspected drugs, and contraband cigarettes in their car. The arrests were made during a patrol at Block 4 Lorong 7 Toa Payoh. The cases have been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau, Singapore Customs, and the Health Sciences Authority.

Singapore crime prevention awards honour 10 organisations; new Cyber Cop volunteer scheme launched
Ten organisations were recognised at the second National Crime Prevention Council awards held at Marina Bay Sands on September 4. The council also announced a pilot Cyber Cop scheme with about 100 trained volunteers working with police since August to detect suspicious online activity.

Meituan denies sending rider to Singapore for curry puffs after viral video
Chinese delivery giant Meituan has denied offering international delivery after a viral video showed a man in its uniform claiming he was paid to fly to Singapore to buy curry puffs. The incident occurred at Paya Lebar Quarter Mall on Aug 31, where the man tried to pay with Chinese mobile wallets. Meituan customer service said it does not support such cross-border orders.

Mee+ eatery in Tampines burns down in fire after four months of frequent power trips
A Malay cuisine eatery, Mee+, at Block 477 Tampines Street 43 in Singapore burned down in a fire on the morning of Sep. 3. The fire started from the store's electrical distribution box, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force evacuated about 20 people from the block. The founders, who invested over S$20,000, have no plans to rebuild and said they had experienced almost-daily power trips since opening four months ago.

Woman blocked in by double-parked car on East Coast Road for nearly an hour
A woman in Singapore was unable to drive her car out for about 50 minutes after another car double-parked beside hers on a small road near East Coast Road on the morning of Sep. 5. She called the car owner about 20 times before someone answered and hung up. A colleague of the owner later arrived to move the car and apologised.

Fire at Kovan house forces evacuation of 30, one person taken to hospital
A fire broke out at a two-storey house on Simon Lane in Kovan on Sept 5, prompting the evacuation of about 30 people from neighbouring units. The Singapore Civil Defence Force extinguished the blaze, which partially damaged a neighbouring house. One person was assessed for smoke inhalation and taken to Singapore General Hospital.

Punggol community market offers 90% discount to low-income families

Singapore's government-owned riverfront land in Punggol East could yield over 8,000 new homes. The Urban Redevelopment Authority's Master Plan 2025 designates five large residential sites there, and current tenants have been told their leases, ending December 2026, will not be renewed to make way for redevelopment.

OTH Tampines offers free lunchtime motorcycle parking to ease Friday prayer congestion
Our Tampines Hub (OTH) is offering free motorcycle parking during weekday lunch hours to help worshippers at Masjid Darul Ghufran, especially for Friday prayers. The initiative, which began in 2024, has also seen the number of motorcycle lots at the hub increased from 68 to 143. Private-hire driver, 38, dies after crash on Joo Chiat Road; suspected heart attack
A 38-year-old private-hire car driver died after his vehicle rear-ended another car along Joo Chiat Road towards Marine Parade Central on Sep. 2. He was found unconscious and taken to Changi General Hospital, where he subsequently died. Police investigations are ongoing.

Man jailed 21 months for S$1,000 paid assault that broke victim's ankle in Toa Payoh lift
A 30-year-old Singaporean man, Lu Zhong Cheng, was jailed about 21 months for assaulting a stranger in a Toa Payoh lift for S$1,000. The assault, which occurred on Sep. 4, 2025, left the 51-year-old victim with a fractured ankle. Lu was also sentenced for allowing his bank account to be used for criminal proceeds and for driving offences.

F1 Singapore GP: Marina Bay, Padang roads to close from Oct 7; MRT, bus hours extended
The Land Transport Authority announced road closures in the Marina Centre and Padang areas from Oct 7 to 13 for the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix. MRT and bus services will be extended during the race weekend from Oct 9 to 11 to manage the expected crowd.

Chef Aminurrashid Hasnordin, also known as Chef Mint, has launched a new brand, Warisan Api, a temporary stall at a coffee shop on Haig Road, Singapore, for three months starting September. NEA fines for ground littering drop to 5,300 in first half of 2026
Singapore's National Environment Agency reported a drop in fines for ground littering and corrective work orders in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. The agency credited targeted enforcement and surveillance, including a pilot with town councils that improved the catch rate for high-rise littering. A Chinese tourist in Singapore had her Gucci handbag containing S$8,000 cash snatched by a man she had met earlier that evening. The man, who had offered to help her exchange money, was chased down by the tourist and two passersby near Circular Road. Police confirmed they received a call for assistance and the suspect was subsequently arrested.

A Meituan food delivery rider from China flew to Singapore on Aug. 31 to collect a S$13.50 curry puff order from Hong Lim Curry Puff at PLQ Mall. The rider's plane ticket cost about S$455. The brand's founder, Victoria Loh, was surprised and happy about the order.
