Man found dead in 1.5m drain near SMK Tun Hussein Onn, Butterworth
A man was found dead in a 1.5-metre-deep drain near SMK Tun Hussein Onn on Jalan Siakap, Taman Kelisa Emas, Butterworth, today. The Perai Fire and Rescue Station received a call from police at 12.10pm to help lift the body, and the five-member operation ended at 12.47pm. The body was handed to police for further action.

Singaporean superbike rider stranded on Bukit Tiram trail rescued by police
A Singaporean man riding a high-powered motorcycle got stuck on the exit route at Bukit Tiram, Bandar Cemerlang, Ulu Tiram, after his bike broke down and its battery died. Ulu Tiram police's Crime Prevention Patrol found him tired but unhurt and helped him out of the trail.

Kota Tinggi police seize 18 foreign-driven vehicles, issue 34 summonses
Police in Kota Tinggi seized 18 vehicles driven by foreign nationals in an operation around the town yesterday. The 7am to 10am operation involved 15 motorcycles and three cars, with 34 traffic summonses issued. District police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said action was taken under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

OBS opens largest campus on Coney Island with wheelchair-accessible elements
Outward Bound Singapore opened its largest campus on Coney Island on Sept 11, featuring over 70 high-adventure elements including wheelchair-accessible ones. The 12-ha site, opened by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, will let OBS accommodate the entire Secondary 3 cohort by 2030. The $250 million project was first announced in 2016 and faced delays.

Fitness influencer charged with RM31,900 criminal breach of trust, RM4,000 bail
Fitness influencer Muhammad Azri Abdul Rahim, 31, pleaded not guilty in the Johor Bahru Sessions Court to a charge of criminal breach of trust over RM31,900 belonging to a former flight attendant. The alleged offence took place at Jalan Nusaria, Taman Nusantara, Gelang Patah, Iskandar Puteri between 25 January and 7 March 2025. The court granted RM4,000 bail with one surety and set 7 October for mention.

Johor Bahru court orders developer to pay RM10.57mil to 84 Princess Cove buyers
The Johor Bahru High Court has ordered R&F Development Sdn Bhd to pay about RM10.57 million in compensation to 84 owners of Princess Cove condominium units over late delivery of their homes. Judge Wong Mee Ling ruled that amendments to the sale and purchase agreements made by the developer without buyers' consent were invalid, and dismissed claims by 39 other plaintiffs who signed their agreements after the building plans were amended.

SPCA tells pet owners to limit outdoor activity as PSI hits unhealthy 104
Singapore's SPCA on Sept 10 advised pet owners to cut short outdoor activities and walk animals in cooler, shaded routes as the 24-hour PSI in the central region reached 104 and the day's high hit 34.5 deg C at Sembawang. It warned against leaving pets in parked cars, urged fresh water and air purifiers that capture PM2.5, and said heatstroke signs such as heavy drooling or fainting need immediate veterinary care.

A Health Ministry van and a bus collided at KM23.3 of the Senai-Desaru Expressway southbound near Kulai at 12.30pm today. No one was injured, and both drivers have lodged police reports. The van was carrying patient samples from Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang to Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru.

Driver pleads guilty to dangerous driving after 221 km/h six-car road trip
A 26-year-old man pleaded guilty in Singapore to dangerous driving after a six-car road trip on 27 October 2024, during which he reached 221 km/h on the Central Expressway and caused two collisions. He and a 22-year-old female passenger were injured. The case was adjourned to 14 September for mitigation and sentencing.

Chinese national pleads not guilty to kidnapping compatriot in Alor Setar
A 27-year-old Chinese man, Wang Hao, pleaded not guilty at the Alor Setar Sessions Court to kidnapping a 33-year-old Chinese woman at a house in Taman Amira, Jalan Langgar, on Aug 7. The judge denied bail and set Oct 11 for mention. The case follows an Aug 8 police raid in which two suspects were shot dead and six people were arrested across Kedah, Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

Two trailer lorries collide at Taman Cantik junction in Kulai, drivers injured
Two trailer lorries collided at the Taman Cantik traffic light junction in Kulai at about 10.05am today, leaving concrete culvert pipe blocks scattered across the road. The 47-year-old driver of the loaded lorry was trapped and suffered leg and knee injuries, while the 49-year-old driver of the empty lorry was lightly hurt. Firefighters freed the trapped man and both were taken to hospital; clearing work was still ongoing.

Three arrested over break-ins of seven cars, four Singapore-registered, in Desaru
Three men aged 26 to 36 were arrested in Masai and Majidee, Johor, over a spate of car break-ins at three resorts and recreational sites in Desaru, Kota Tinggi. Seven vehicles were broken into, four of them Singapore-registered, and police seized a car, phones, remote keys, a spanner and a screwdriver. The suspects, who have criminal records and tested positive for methamphetamine, were remanded for four days.

Genting Simon Sdn Bhd will add 70,000 sq ft of net lettable space to Genting Highlands Premium Outlets at a cost of US$40 million (RM170 million), to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2027. The announcement was made at the launch of the 15th anniversary sale at Johor Premium Outlets, which will also be upgraded next year.

Johor to convert six Medan Niaga Kampung Melayu Majidee shop lots into Malaysia's first food-court NCD clinic
Six shop lots at Medan Niaga Kampung Melayu Majidee in Johor Baru will be refurbished into Malaysia's first non-communicable disease clinic located inside a food court, at a cost of RM1 million. The Johor Baru City Council project will move NCD follow-up services from the Majidee public clinic and is expected to serve about 200 patients daily when it opens early next year. Separately, measures including scheduled appointments and extended hours have been introduced at the Mengkibol clinic in Kluang to ease congestion.

Cape EMS unit to distribute Malaysia-assembled BESS in Europe, APAC
Cape EMS Berhad's wholly-owned subsidiary Cape Renewables has signed a distribution and strategic collaboration agreement with Helios PV (Asia Pacific) to commercialise Malaysian-assembled residential battery energy storage systems across Europe and the Asia-Pacific. Germany is the initial launch market, with the systems to be assembled at Cape EMS's facility in Senai, Johor.
