2026 Malaysia Day Exhibition Goes Digital, MA63 Pushed as National Narrative
The 2026 Malaysia Day Celebration Exhibition has been expanded to digital platforms and social media accounts under the Communications Ministry, with Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil officiating at Plaza Merdeka in Kuching on Sept 14. The physical exhibition runs from Sept 10 to 16 in 10 Sarawak divisions plus mini exhibitions in Putrajaya and Sabah, while the main Malaysia Day 2026 celebration is set for the Borneo Kuching Convention Centre on Wednesday.

Sarawak targets 9 new OSEIC centres by 2030, RM30m for special needs centre in Samarahan
Sarawak plans to set up nine more One-Stop Early Intervention Centres (OSEIC) by 2030 to expand early intervention services for children with special needs. The state government has also approved RM30 million under the 13th Malaysia Plan for the first phase of the Sarawak Special Needs Community Centre in Samarahan, expected to be completed by May 2028. As of 31 December 2025, 745 children have received OSEIC services.

Hari Malaysia 2026 exhibition opens at Plaza Merdeka, Kuching
A national-level Hari Malaysia 2026 exhibition themed 'Koridor Zaman Pembentukan Malaysia' was launched at the Atrium Utama, Plaza Merdeka in Kuching today. The exhibition, running until Sept 16, traces Malaysia's formation through 20 tunnel panels and five segments, with mini versions in 10 Sarawak divisions, Sabah and Putrajaya. The main Hari Malaysia celebration will be held on Sept 16 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching.

Five teens in Kuching admit gang robbery, sent to Henry Gurney School
The Sessions Court in Kuching on Monday ordered five male teenagers to be placed at Henry Gurney School in Puncak Borneo after they pleaded guilty to gang robbery. The robbery took place at a convenience store along Jalan Tun Jugah at about 4am on June 1, where a 19-year-old worker was threatened with a machete and wooden sticks and about RM1,000 in cash and cigarettes were taken. Two 18-year-olds will be held until they turn 21, while the three younger accused, aged 14 and 15, were each ordered to spend three years at the juvenile rehabilitation facility.

Sarawak police chief tells journalists to approach OCPDs for case details
Sarawak Commissioner of Police Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said journalists in the state may contact district police chiefs to get information or clarification on police cases. Speaking at a dinner with media practitioners at a restaurant near Jalan Simpang Tiga in Kuching, he said he has given OCPDs his full support to cooperate with the press.

Dr Sim: palliative care awareness must start young
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said awareness of palliative care must be nurtured in society from a young age to build compassion and empathy. He spoke to reporters after officiating the Northbank Business Exchange in Kuching on Monday, citing the Batu Kawa palliative care initiative and a projection that about 30,000 people in Sarawak will need such care by 2030.

SNCC Samarahan first phase set for May 2028 completion, RM30m approved
The first phase of the Special Needs Community Centre (SNCC) in Samarahan, Sarawak is expected to be completed by May 2028, with RM30 million approved under the 13th Malaysia Plan. State minister Fatimah Abdullah said the centre will provide lifelong support including early intervention, vocational training and residential care. She also announced 745 children received early intervention services statewide as of Dec 31, 2025, and Sarawak aims to establish nine more One Stop Early Intervention Centres by 2030.

Sarawak Hari Malaysia exhibition expands to 10 divisions

59 Indonesians detained in Ops Sapu raids around Kuching
Malaysian Immigration in Sarawak detained 59 Indonesian nationals in Ops Sapu at three locations around Kuching city from 12 September to yesterday. A total of 92 individuals were screened, with those held suspected of various immigration offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63. All detainees were taken for further action.

Police arrest woman, 22, over unlicensed Kuching entertainment centre
Kuching police arrested a 22-year-old woman during a raid on an unlicensed entertainment centre along Jalan Lapangan Terbang late Friday night. Separately, a 41-year-old man died after his car crashed into a roadside ditch along Jalan Sungai Moyan early Saturday.

Lorry falls into drain at Jalan Mendu after unauthorised structure collapses, MBKS reminds owners to get approval
A seven-tonne lorry fell into a drain at Jalan Mendu in Kuching on Friday morning when an unauthorised structure covering the drain collapsed under its weight. Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who inspected the site, reminded property owners to obtain approval before building structures over public drains, citing Section 136 of the Local Authorities Ordinance 1996. The driver was not injured.

SCCS Childhood Cancer Walk moved to Nov 7 after haze postponement
The Sarawak Children's Cancer Society has rescheduled its Childhood Cancer Awareness Walk to Nov 7 after it was postponed because of the haze. Lab results awaited after mass fish deaths in Sarawak River near Kuching Waterfront
Large numbers of fish were found dead along the Sarawak River near the Kuching Waterfront and Kampung Gersik-Boyan on Saturday morning. State agencies including NREB, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Fisheries have taken water and fish samples for laboratory analysis. Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the cause cannot yet be speculated on and promised a thorough investigation.
