Childminder in Air Itam charged with negligence over 13-month-old baby's death
A 44-year-old childminder was brought before the Sessions Court in Georgetown today, accused of exposing a 13-month-old boy in her care in a manner that may have caused his death. She pleaded not guilty and was granted RM8,000 bail with one surety, with the case set for mention on 16 November pending a post-mortem report. Factory bus plunges into drain near Jalan Tun Dr Awang roundabout, driver hurt

Old tree falls in George Town, injuring family of three
In George Town, Penang, a roughly 90-year-old angsana tree fell on Jalan Macalister on 9 August, injuring three members of a family travelling in an SUV. Three police officers held over RM13,000 extortion in Pulau Tikus
Three police officers in Penang have been detained over the alleged extortion of four men of RM13,000 in Pulau Tikus on 6 August. Penang police chief Dennis Lim Kwang Keng said the suspects, aged 30 to 48, are remanded for four days until 16 September, and the case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code.

Body of man found in 10m-deep drain at Jalan Pantai Jerejak
An unidentified man, believed to be in his 40s, was found dead at the bottom of a 10-metre-deep drain at Jalan Pantai Jerejak in George Town, Penang. The Penang Fire and Rescue Department retrieved the body after a police call at 2.34am, and the operation ended at 3.15am. The body was handed to police and sent to hospital for a post-mortem.

Police: Desa Green fatal accident not a hit-and-run

Final report on Penang ferry collision to be finalised after probe
The final report on the September 1 collision between MV Mekar Jaya and the Teluk Bahang ferry in Penang waters will be finalised after the investigation is complete. A joint investigation committee involving the Marine Department, the Penang Port Commission and Penang Port Sdn Bhd is identifying the cause. 21 passengers were initially reported injured.

Penang City Council raids unlicensed laundrette on Gat Lebuh Macallum

MBPP seizes goods from unlicensed laundry in George Town
