A medical officer at Taiping Hospital's emergency department says the unit is critically short of manpower, with one doctor treating nearly 50 patients in the Green Zone. Waiting times have risen sharply and referrals from 13 health clinics across Larut, Matang and Selama are adding to the strain.

Perak denies claim Taiping Hospital has no graduate medical officers
The Perak state government has denied a news portal's claim that Taiping Hospital has no graduate medical officers. State health committee chairman Datuk A Sivanesan said 93 graduate medical officers are currently posted at Malaysia's oldest hospital, though he acknowledged other shortcomings are being addressed. He spoke after a visit with Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh at the hospital, and also addressed parking issues to be tackled through mechanical parking structures.
