Welfare Dept counsels family of Dr Ainul Baraah after Sarawak crash
The Social Welfare Department is providing counselling to the family and husband of the late Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, a victim of the helicopter crash in Sarawak on 8 September. The first session was held at her parents' home in Kota Bharu, while her husband will be met later as he is still traumatised.

Ops Lintas Batas 2026 strengthens wildlife protection at Sarawak-Kalimantan border
Sarawak Forestry Corporation and 18 Malaysian and Indonesian agencies ran Ops Lintas Batas 2026 from 10 to 15 September in the Aruk-Biawak area and along the Malaysia-Indonesia border. A total of 98 personnel took part in joint patrols, checkpoints and intelligence sharing to curb wildlife smuggling. A 1000 Site Visit programme also engaged border communities on conservation awareness.

Fahmi: Sarawak electoral boundary review already under way, no date set
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the electoral boundary review process has already begun but gave no commitment on completing it before Sarawak's next election. He spoke to reporters in Kuching after visiting a Borneo Post photographer whose Kampung Tabuan Dayak home was damaged by an Aug 25 storm. The Election Commission says the review is at the fourth of 16 constitutional stages, with public display of draft boundaries open until Sept 30.

Borneo Post photographer among Tabung Kasih@Hawana aid recipients in Kuching
A Borneo Post photographer in Kuching whose house was damaged by a storm on Aug 25 is among 845 recipients of Tabung Kasih@Hawana, which has disbursed RM729,300 since 2023. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil visited the house in Kampung Tabuan Dayak and said Sarawak has received RM172,000 for 58 media practitioners.

Two men arrested after testing positive for drugs in Bau
Two men aged 25 to 29 were arrested beside Jalan Bau-Lundu in Bau, Sarawak, yesterday afternoon on suspicion of drug abuse. The Bau district police chief said both suspects were detained by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Bau district police headquarters and tested positive for drugs in initial urine screening. The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

One dead, five hurt in two-lorry crash on Pan Borneo Highway near Bintulu
A collision between two long lorries on the Pan Borneo Highway between Bintulu and Miri killed one person and injured five others. Firefighters from the Batu Niah station freed a trapped victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two Sabah house fires: One in Semporna, one in Sipitang
A wooden house at Kampung Perigi in Semporna was completely destroyed by a morning fire on Tuesday. Separately, two houses at Kampung Ranau-Ranau in Sipitang were 95 percent destroyed in a fire on Monday. No casualties were reported in either incident.

Fatimah: Bottled water distributed as dry spell hits parts of Sarawak
A dry spell in parts of Sarawak has dried up water sources, leading to the distribution of bottled water to 94 families in Lundu and Sri Aman. The Welfare Department and JBALB are coordinating further assistance, including water tankers.
