Raja Muda of Perlis opens MIDF CSR study room at MADI

MADANI Kita programme reaches 17 locations nationwide this year, including Gopeng
Seventeen MADANI Kita (PMK) programmes will be held nationwide this year, run jointly by J-KOM and the Prime Minister's Department's PACU. J-KOM director-general Mohd Hisyamuddin Ghazali said the programme began on 27 June and has so far been held in Chuah, Kota Raja, Sepanggar and Simpang Pulai. The tour continues next week in Bayan Baru, Kuantan and Gopeng, where the event at Dewan Orang Ramai Rapat Setia targets about 2,000 visitors.

18 motorcycles seized, four held in Ipoh street gang operation
Police in Ipoh, Perak, conducted an integrated operation against street gangs at Jalan Pasir Puteh near Station 18 early this morning. Eighteen motorcycles were seized and four individuals detained for reckless riding, while 416 traffic summonses were issued. The operation involved 66 police and environment department personnel.

In Kampung Batu Putih, Marang, entrepreneur Nur Nadirah Syuhadah Rahmat generates RM6 million in annual sales from nisan kerek-based products and now employs 51 workers. Dr Sivanesan Letchumanan elected new president of Malaysian Medical Association
At the Malaysian Medical Association's annual general meeting in Ipoh, Dr Sivanesan Letchumanan took over as its new president. He said retaining government doctors and improving career paths, working conditions and specialist training for medical graduates would be his main goals. He also paid tribute to the five people, including four health workers, killed in a recent flying doctor helicopter crash in Ulu Baram, Sarawak, and called for better protection for staff in remote areas.

Firemen trek 2km up Bukit Perak Cave Temple to bring down Nepali man's body
A Nepali man was found hanging from a tree at the summit of Bukit Perak Cave Temple on Jalan Kuala Kangsar in Ipoh. Six firemen walked about two kilometres along a hilly route to reach the body and bring it down before handing it to police. The operation began after a call at 1.33pm and ended at 4.10pm.

PKNPk boosts pupils' digital literacy through StratCom Jr.
The Perak State Development Corp (PKNPk) is continuing its StratCom Jr. Programme with Sekolah Kebangsaan St. Michael (SKSMI), Ipoh, to strengthen digital literacy and media skills among primary school pupils. PKNPk also contributed an iPhone 15 and media accessories to the school's media team.

Ipoh seminar hears survivors recall life under Japanese Occupation
Four survivors of the Japanese Occupation of Malaya spoke at a seminar at the Peace Gallery in Ipoh on Aug 15, held to mark the end of World War 2 and to promote peace and anti-fascism. The event also marked the opening of the gallery's Chinese section, with China's Vice-Consul General in Penang, Ding Qiao, as guest of honour. Survivors including 93-year-old Chong Su Ha described hunger, fear and violence they witnessed as children.

310 cable theft and telecom vandalism cases reported in Perak
Perak recorded 310 cable theft and telecommunications network vandalism cases from January to June this year, with Kinta district reporting the most. State communications committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi said 125 cases have been charged in court and 67 investigation papers opened, while a state telecommunications security committee has been formed with MCMC, police and the state legal adviser. A community awareness programme will be held on 28 September in Kinta.

The Public Service Commission has filled more than 1,000 of the 1,400 nursing vacancies in the public service, using open interviews and walk-ins to speed up hiring. Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus said the effort is ongoing and several hundred posts remain, with Public Health Assistants also a priority. SPA denies blocking walk-in nurses from leaving after contract ends
Public Services Commission chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus said no restrictions are imposed on nurses hired through walk-in interviews who want to move to the private sector or work abroad once their contracts end. Left lane at KM263.6 southbound reopens after slope declared safe
The left lane at KM263.6 of the North-South Expressway southbound, about two kilometres after the Menora Tunnel, reopened to all vehicles from 1pm today after the slope was declared safe. Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said repair work on the slope will continue. A landslide occurred at 4.30pm yesterday during heavy rain, forcing the lane to be closed temporarily.

Landslide near Menora Tunnel on NSE; all lanes reopened
A landslide occurred at KM263.6 of the North-South Expressway southbound, about 2km past the Menora Tunnel, yesterday afternoon. The left lane was temporarily closed and all lanes were reopened to motorists at 7pm after clean-up works. No injuries or property damage were reported, and PLUS Malaysia and authorities are monitoring the slope.

Raintown Film Festival in Taiping draws 152 entries, Agnes Yap wins top prize
The third Raintown Film Festival at Paragon, Taiping, received 152 short film submissions, up nearly 48 per cent from 2025. Agnes Yap Jen Nie won the RM8,000 Grand Prize for her nine-minute documentary 'Daughter of the Last Journey', shot in Sungai Petani, Kedah. The festival also launched a tertiary filmmaking sandbox with IACT College.

The left lane at KM 263.6 of the North-South Expressway southbound has been closed after a landslide near the Menora Tunnel heading towards Ipoh. Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the closure is a precaution, with safety cones placed from KM 262.8 to KM 263.8 and CCTV and PLUS monitoring ongoing.

A landslide occurred at Section 1.4 of Jalan Sultan Hj Ahmad Shah near Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands this afternoon, forcing a temporary road closure for cleaning works. A flash flood at Golden Hill Housing Estate in Brinchang affected three houses and seven vehicles. No injuries were reported.
