16th Sukan Harmoni draws 500 participants at Our Tampines Hub
About 500 participants joined the 16th Sukan Harmoni at Our Tampines Hub on 13 September, a cross-religious sports event organised by MUIS and the Taoist Federation of Singapore. Participants competed in badminton and basketball while meeting players from different backgrounds. The event was attended by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo and MUIS chief executive Kadir Maideen.

Lee Hsien Loong joins 7.5km community walk, 79 children get $50 in Ci Yuan Day event
Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong joined a 7.5-kilometre community walk around Ang Mo Kio and Hougang on 13 September, covering 14 Residents' Network centres. He said the government will keep helping residents cope with difficulties in an uncertain world. Over 1,000 residents attended the main Ci Yuan Day event at Ci Yuan Community Club, where 79 children received $50 in toy money under the Bag-to-School programme.

Shaping Hearts 2026 opens at Punggol Digital District with artist-designed sensory playgrounds
The sixth Shaping Hearts inclusive arts festival launched at Punggol Digital District on Sept 13, with artists with disabilities co-creating four sensory playgrounds for visitors. Organised by the North East CDC, the 2026 edition under the theme Step Into Our World was attended by DPM Gan Kim Yong and Mayor Baey Yam Keng.

Over 200 artworks shown at Shaping Hearts 2026 in Punggol
Shaping Hearts 2026, an annual inclusive arts event by North East CDC, is displaying over 200 works by artists with disabilities at Punggol Digital District from 12 to 27 September. Among them is a strawberry artwork by Syarifah Alawiyah Alaydrus Syed Abdul Kadir, 8, a CPAS student with osteogenesis imperfecta. The sixth edition features four interactive playgrounds themed Texture, Movement, Rhythm and Visual.

Three traffic police officers under investigation after unsafe riding video goes viral
Three Singapore Traffic Police officers are being investigated after a dashboard camera video circulated online. The footage, said to be recorded at 3am on 4 September at Ubi Avenue 3, shows them riding unsafely, including cutting in front of a car and forcing the driver to brake suddenly. Police said appropriate action will be taken.

Car driver arrested for drug-driving after Rochor crash involving bus and PAB
A 31-year-old car driver was arrested for drug-driving after his car rear-ended an SBS Transit bus at a bus stop along Middle Road in Rochor on the evening of Sept 12. A 32-year-old PAB rider and a 65-year-old bus passenger were taken conscious to Raffles Hospital, while five other passengers had minor injuries. A vaporiser was found on the driver and referred to the Health Sciences Authority.

PC prices in Singapore jump up to 40% as AI data centres soak up memory chips
PC prices in Singapore have risen by up to 40 per cent year on year in the second quarter of 2026, with average laptop prices up 26 per cent to $1,650, according to IDC data. The surge is driven by a global shortage of RAM, storage and graphics cards as manufacturers divert supply to AI data centres, and IDC expects prices to stay high through most of 2027. Checks at Sim Lim Square found a 32GB DDR5 RAM kit nearly quadrupled in price in a year.

Toa Payoh coffee shop chef accused of stealing S$4,300, flees after confessing
A coffee shop stall owner in Toa Payoh went to look for his missing chef on Aug 27 and found bags used to store stall revenue at the man's home. The chef, surnamed Chen, admitted taking about S$4,300 and begged for forgiveness, but fled the next day; the owner has made a police report and believes Chen may have gone to Vietnam.

17 doctors and dentists receive Eminent Academician title in Singapore
Seventeen pioneering doctors and dentists received the Eminent Academician title from the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, on Sept 12. The honour went to figures including emergency medicine professor Venkataraman Anantharaman and paediatrician Phua Kong Boo, who led rotavirus vaccine trials. SAF pioneer who cleared WWII sea mines to speak on 1978 Bangladesh bomb mission
Winston Wong, 79, was a pioneer of the Singapore Armed Forces' bomb disposal and naval diving units, clearing World War II sea mines and explosives from Singapore waters and leading a 1978 mission to defuse a 272kg bomb in Joydebpur, Bangladesh. He will speak about that mission at the Military Hobby Fest at SAFRA Toa Payoh on Sept 13.

LTA: North-South Corridor works hit hard rock and water seepage at Novena, Thomson
Singapore's Land Transport Authority said tunnelling for the North-South Corridor has run into unexpected ground conditions at Novena and Thomson, including hard rock and underground water seepage. At Novena crews are digging the northbound tunnel section by section just 1m below the operating North-South MRT line, while in Thomson harder rock was found about 10m closer to the surface than expected. LTA said it is monitoring progress and will update the completion timeline later; the corridor was previously slated to open in phases from 2027.

Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong announced that all PCF Sparkletots preschools will offer Chinese, Malay and Tamil from 2027, expanding mother-tongue learning across 350 centres nationwide. He said nearly 40,000 children will benefit, speaking at an event at One Punggol.

North Korea fires short-range ballistic missiles from Wonsan area
North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles from the Wonsan area toward the sea off its east coast early Saturday, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said. The missiles flew about 250km and were tracked by South Korean and US authorities, who shared information with Japan. Seoul convened an emergency security meeting and urged Pyongyang to stop the launches, calling them a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

Lorry driver jailed 23 months over Nicoll Avenue crash that left cabbie disabled
A lorry driver who ran a red light at Nicoll Avenue and collided with a taxi was jailed 23 months and disqualified from driving for eight years. The taxi driver, 56, was permanently disabled by his injuries and died two years later, though the court found no indication the death was caused by the accident.
