Peak Vista residents hire lawyer over Sabah MotoDay 9.0 exhaust noise
Residents of Peak Vista in Kota Kinabalu have engaged law firm Khian Chong and Partners to seek accountability over excessive motorcycle exhaust noise during Sabah MotoDay 9.0, held on Sept 12 and 13. The firm is inviting other affected communities in Kota Kinabalu to join the initiative, which seeks assurance that large-scale motoring events will not be held near residential areas and consistent enforcement of existing laws.

Teacher dies after eight-vehicle crash at Jalan Kolam flyover in Kota Kinabalu
A 43-year-old teacher was killed in an eight-vehicle crash near the Jalan Kolam flyover traffic lights in Kota Kinabalu early Monday. Police said the Toyota Hilux he was driving rammed a Ford and a motorcycle before entering the opposite lane and hitting four other vehicles. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem.

DBKK denies 'secret rezoning' claim for Jalan Sang Kancil land
Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) has denied claims that land at Lot 602, Jalan Sang Kancil was secretly rezoned to allow a proposed development. DBKK said the development plan was approved on Nov 11, 2025 under Section 15 of the Town and Country Planning Ordinance (Sabah Cap. 141), and that the zoning originated from the Draft Kota Kinabalu Local Plan 2020, which went through public consultation in 2011 and 2014.

Kabang Water Intake upgrade 94 pct done, 21-day push to finish
The Kabang Water Intake upgrading project in Papar, Sabah has reached 94 per cent physical completion, with a 21-day acceleration plan to finish critical works. The upgrade will raise capacity from nine million to 30 million litres a day, serving as an alternative raw water source for the Limbahau Water Treatment Plant and the Emergency Water Supply Scheme. Officials including Papar MP Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam inspected the site on Monday.

Sabah Malaysia Day celebration moved indoors to SICC over weather concerns
The Sabah-level Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16 will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu instead of Padang Merdeka due to unpredictable weather and safety concerns. Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the decision follows last year's rain disruption, with about 3,000 people expected. The national celebration will be in Kuching, Sarawak.

Sabah government studies three sites for Kota Kinabalu central market relocation
The Sabah government is considering three locations to move the Kota Kinabalu central market out of the city centre. Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor inspected two proposed sites along Likas Bay and near Alamesra, with a third in Darau, but said no final decision has been made. Businesswoman fined RM20,000 for tampering with SE meter at Penampang store
A 40-year-old businesswoman was fined RM20,000 by the Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu after pleading guilty to tampering with a Sabah Electricity meter at her grocery store in Penampang. The court heard a bypass cable was found behind the meter, causing RM10,648.02 in revenue losses between October 2024 and January this year.

Teacher dies after pickup crashes into seven vehicles at Kota Kinabalu traffic lights
A teacher was killed after the Toyota Hilux he was driving skidded and crashed into seven vehicles near a traffic light junction on Jalan Kolam, Kota Kinabalu, at about 6am. The victim, Arizal Wahid, 43, was on his way to SK Sembulan and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are seeking witnesses to contact the investigating officer.

500 attend smart farming and black pepper course in Tambunan
More than 500 people joined a smart farming and black pepper cultivation course in Tambunan, Sabah, organised by Sawit Kinabalu. The course, held for the first time at SMK Tambunan, introduced farmers and agro-entrepreneurs to technology such as smartphones and CCTV for crop monitoring. Deputy Chairman Datuk Victor P Paut said the approach, inspired by farming in Hokkaido, Japan, could help Tambunan become a modern agricultural hub.

German man gets 12 months' jail in Kota Kinabalu for illegal entry and obstructing immigration officer
A 40-year-old German national, Kuecuekboga Suleyman, was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment by the Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu on two counts of entering Sabah illegally and obstructing an immigration officer. He changed his plea to guilty midway through his trial, receiving six months' jail for each charge, to run consecutively from the date of conviction.

Indonesian carpenter hurt as iron piece pierces foot in Tambunan
An Indonesian carpenter was injured in Tambunan, Sabah, on Monday morning when a piece of iron pierced his foot while he was doing carpentry work on a house. Firefighters from the Tambunan Fire and Rescue Station were called to Tambunan Hospital to cut the metal out, and he was handed to Health Ministry staff for further treatment.

Defendants in KSSA suit move to bar Ram Singh from acting for himself
In Kota Kinabalu, a group of defendants in a civil suit involving the Kinabalu Singh Sabha Association Sabah have applied to the High Court to stop plaintiff Datuk Ram Singh from representing himself as an advocate and solicitor. They also want his firm, Messrs Ram Singh & Co, removed, citing a conflict of interest because Ram is both a party and a material witness. The application was filed on Aug 28.

Sabah minister to table proposal for dedicated motorcycle racing circuit

Penampang Preppies Swimming Club retained the overall title at the 16th Penampang Preppies Swimming Championship held at the Penampang Sports Complex pool on September 4-5. The hosts collected 31 gold, 24 silver and 34 bronze medals, with Kelab Renang SSA Sandakan and Topspeed Swimming Club (Miri) finishing second and third. Malanjum: Putrajaya must share Sabah's illegal immigrant burden
