Kedah UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said an informal meeting with Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor at Seri Mentaloon yesterday gave an early indication of more serious talks. He will inform UMNO's central leadership before any next step is arranged with Kedah PAS ahead of GE16.

Lorry driver held at Jitra toll plaza after testing positive for meth
A 43-year-old lorry driver carrying cement was detained at the Jitra Toll Plaza in Kedah after testing positive for methamphetamine during an integrated drug operation on commercial vehicles. He told enforcement he took drugs to stay awake on long solo trips from Perlis to Perak. Kedah RTD said six other lorry and express bus drivers have tested positive since July, and licences will be withheld or suspended.

Sanusi: Pas-UMNO Kedah meeting not yet formal cooperation
Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said yesterday's meeting between Pas Kedah and UMNO Kedah in Alor Setar was not the start of formal cooperation but an effort to build a positive political environment. He said no seat negotiations took place and any cooperation must be decided at the central level. Kedah UMNO chairman Mahdzir Khalid described the meeting as opening room for further discussion between the two Malay parties in the state.

Sanusi urges FAM delegates to make big leadership change
KFA president Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has called on state delegates who are FAM affiliates to make a big change in the FAM Executive Committee election at the Second FAM Extraordinary Congress 2026 on 17 September. He said FAM should not follow anyone's lead and should prioritise local players over the high number of imports. Sanusi spoke after the Kedah Young Leadership Development Programme 2026 in Alor Setar.

Hashim Jasin: seat dispute should not block PAS-UMNO unity

Four children who drowned in Kulim buried in a single grave
Four children who drowned after falling into a drain at Taman Desa Kayangan, Sungai Karangan, Kulim, were buried in one grave at the Masjid Jamek Nurul Ehsan Islamic cemetery today. Two died at the scene and two on the way to Kulim Hospital.

Tour bus catches fire at KM137 of North-South Expressway near Yong Peng, all 15 escape
A tour bus carrying 14 passengers and a driver caught fire at KM137 of the northbound North-South Expressway near Yong Peng, Batu Pahat. All 15 people escaped unhurt after the driver and tour leader evacuated them before firefighters arrived. The bus was about 80 per cent destroyed and the blaze was put out at 2.48pm.

Maybank Islamic handed RM869,806.58 in wakalah zakat to the Kedah Zakat Board for four asnaf economic and welfare programmes. Four Chinese nationals plead not guilty to kidnapping compatriot in Alor Setar
Four Chinese nationals pleaded not guilty in the Alor Setar Sessions Court to kidnapping a Chinese woman at a house in Taman Amira, Jalan Langgar, on Aug 7. The judge denied bail and set Oct 11 for mention. The case follows an Aug 8 shootout that killed two suspects.

Man who threw cigarette butt gets arrest warrant, then community service in Perlis
A self-employed man in Perlis was issued an arrest warrant after skipping three court summonses over a discarded cigarette butt, and was later ordered to perform community service. He was one of four people given community service orders for the offence in the state, and on the day only he turned up to start cleaning roads and drains around Dataran Sena. SWCorp said 655 notices of offence had been issued in Perlis as of Sept 13, all for discarding cigarette butts.

Nestle Malaysia invests over RM6 million in paddy club since 2012
Nestle Malaysia has put more than RM6 million into its Nestle Paddy Club since 2012, supporting about 200 farmers across over 600 hectares in Kedah and Perlis. The programme supplies locally grown rice for Cerelac infant cereals, with participating farmers recording yields above the national average.

1821 cannonballs handed to Kota Kuala Kedah Museum
Several iron cannonballs believed to be relics of the 1821 Kedah-Siam war are now part of the Kota Kuala Kedah Museum collection. The artefacts, found about 20 years ago, were handed over by Yayasan Tunku Kassim at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj 2026 carnival held at the museum.

A managing director of a fertiliser supply company has been remanded until 16 September after MACC detained him over delays in distributing Baja 3 to padi farmers in Kedah. The investigation under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 involves a shortfall of 282,360 bags from the 616,015 bags due to about 60,000 farmers in the MADA area.

Body of missing fisherman found 400 metres from Pulau Batu Layang
A fisherman feared drowned since yesterday was found dead about 400 metres from Pulau Batu Layang, Kangar, this morning. His body was discovered by his own brother-in-law after search and rescue operations were reactivated. The victim leaves behind a wife and three children.

Star City FC drew 1-1 with Terengganu FC in a Super League match at Stadium Tuanku Syed Putra, Kangar. Douglas Oliveira put Star City ahead in the 55th minute before Romel Morales equalised for Terengganu in the 77th. Star City coach Mehmet Durakovic was disappointed his side dropped two points.
