Dr Akmal pays electricity, water bills of poor family in Merlimau
In Merlimau, Melaka, a poor family with three young children lived without electricity for two weeks and without water for a long time after failing to pay their bills. Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, the area's elected representative, scolded the head of the family in a video and paid the RM2,387.32 electricity arrears and settled the water supply problem using his own salary.

Melaka to build IBS classrooms at 53 schools; Merlimau Tamil school gets two new rooms
Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said 53 schools in Melaka will get additional classrooms built using the IBS method to address overcrowding. He spoke after visiting construction work at SJK(T) Merlimau, where two new classrooms costing RM600,000 will be built within 20 weeks. The ministry is acting ahead of the 2027 school session, when two age cohorts will enter Year One.
