MCMC recorded 714 online content complaints in Sandakan from 2025 to August 2026, including 408 involving social media. The figures were disclosed at the launch of the Sandakan District Safe Internet Campaign 2026 Community Carnival at the Taman Harmoni PPR Multipurpose Hall on Saturday.

Sandakan Airport terminal upgrade to add boarding bridges, e-gates
Sandakan Airport is set for a terminal upgrade that will add two passenger boarding bridges, reconfigure the departure and arrival halls, improve air-conditioning and install e-gates at immigration counters. Maritime agency foils smuggling of 1,020 packets of subsidised cooking oil in Sandakan
Malaysia's Maritime Enforcement Agency intercepted a boat in the waters off Sungai Tanjung Batu, Sandakan, early yesterday morning and seized 1,020 packets of subsidised cooking oil worth RM60,550. The boat's skipper fled into the mangroves as officers approached. The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Sandakan's Tham Kung Temple marks 150 years with 6km procession
Tham Kung Temple in Sandakan, Sabah, celebrated its 150th anniversary on Saturday with a six-kilometre religious procession through the town. More than 1,000 participants, including visiting contingents from Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and China, joined the parade of deity sedan chairs, lion and dragon dance troupes. Temple adviser Datuk Quek Siew Hau said the event also aimed to promote Sandakan's Chinese temple culture and tourism.

UMS offers 6,171 undergraduate places for 2026/2027 session
Universiti Malaysia Sabah has offered 6,171 undergraduate places for the 2026/2027 session, with registration starting today. A total of 5,251 students registered at the Kota Kinabalu campus, 698 at the Labuan international campus and 222 at the Sandakan campus. The intake includes 3,380 B40 students, 14 disabled students, eight Orang Asli, 15 athletes and 215 international students from 12 countries.

Karamunting cable theft cuts Internet, phone lines
A suspected cable theft in Karamunting, Sandakan, left residents near a block of flats in Batu Sapi without telecommunications and Internet services. Karamunting assemblyman Alex Wong Tshun Khee said he had contacted the telco and alerted police, and urged residents to report such incidents immediately.
