As rice output falls, Malaysia looks to China's '2 yields, 1 land' model
Malaysia is exploring China's rice-prawn farming model to boost productivity on its shrinking paddy land as its rice self-sufficiency ratio fell to 52.9% in 2024. Agriculture Minister Mohamad Sabu reiterated the national target of 80% self-sufficiency under the National Agrofood Policy 2030.
