Government urged to disclose report on state assembly's competence to enact Islamic laws

Lawyers led by Datuk Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar have petitioned the Malaysian government to release the report by the Special Committee studying state legislative assemblies' competence in enacting Islamic laws. The committee was formed following the Nik Elin court case, which raised significant questions about state jurisdiction over Syariah offences. The lawyers argue there is no reasonable justification for further delaying the report's disclosure.
