PAS warns Zakir Naik must not become 'political victim' in Malaysia-India ties

PAS has raised concern that preacher Dr Zakir Naik could become a political victim as Malaysia strengthens ties with India, after reports his extradition was discussed during Anwar Ibrahim's meeting with Narendra Modi in New Delhi. PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan urged the government to clarify the legal and diplomatic status of any extradition request and whether Malaysia made any political commitment. Zakir has held permanent resident status in Malaysia since 2012, and India formally requested his extradition in January 2018.
