EU to table curbs on addictive social media for minors as more countries ban under-16 access

The European Union is set to unveil proposals to curb addictive social media features for minors, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presenting them to the European Parliament. More than 20 countries have moved to restrict children's social media access, including Malaysia, which has excluded under-16s from major platforms since June. Australia, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Turkey, the UAE and California are among those with bans or measures in place or planned.
