Task force proposes fee caps, higher subsidies for disability services
An inter-agency task force in Singapore has recommended fee caps for all disability services and higher means-tested subsidies, raising the income threshold to S$6,000 per capita. Lower-income households would pay no more than S$10 for community-based services. The changes are expected by 2028, benefiting around 5,000 people by 2030.

A five-year-old boy in Singapore with Type 1 diabetes depends on insulin for life, but his condition is managed at home with guidance from National University Hospital care teams. The National University Health System's Appropriate and Value-Based Care approach, introduced in 2015, has benefited more than 300,000 patients and marks its tenth year at the AVBC 2026 Symposium on 15 September.

NUS undergrad first in Singapore to get new defibrillator under breastbone
A 19-year-old National University of Singapore undergraduate who suffered a cardiac arrest at his camp's medical centre has become one of the first patients in Singapore to receive an extravascular implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (EV-ICD). The device, implanted under the breastbone at the National University Hospital, delivers shocks to restore normal heart rhythm.

17 doctors and dentists receive Eminent Academician title in Singapore
Seventeen pioneering doctors and dentists received the Eminent Academician title from the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, on Sept 12. The honour went to figures including emergency medicine professor Venkataraman Anantharaman and paediatrician Phua Kong Boo, who led rotavirus vaccine trials. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said the title recognises a lifetime of contributions to Singapore's healthcare system.
