Politeknik Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin wins overall eDOLA 2026 title
The 14th Digital Learning Innovation Awards (eDOLA) for polytechnics and community colleges was held at the Selangor International Trade Centre (SITC) in Shah Alam. Politeknik Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin took the overall championship and RM120,000. Higher Education Ministry secretary-general Aminuddin Hassim also launched SATRIA, a blockchain-based academic verification system.

JPJ issues 33 summonses to commercial drivers using right lane on Plus highway
JPJ Selangor issued 33 summonses to lorry and bus drivers for continuously driving in the right lane along the North-South Expressway between Shah Alam and Tanjong Malim. The undercover operation also seized two heavy vehicles driven by foreigners.

PTT Synergy unit wins RM83.26m earthworks contract from Sime Darby Property
Pembinaan Tetap Teguh Sdn Bhd, a unit of PTT Synergy Group Bhd, has secured an RM83.26 million contract from Sime Darby Property for earthworks and related tasks in Phase 1 of Bandar Bukit Raja Stage 4 in Klang, Selangor. The contract runs from September 2026 to March 2028.

GOF seizes RM1.9mil in smuggled cigarettes in Klang raid
The General Operations Force seized over RM1.9 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in a raid on a premises in Bandar Bukit Raja, Klang, on Tuesday. A 52-year-old man suspected of being the courier was arrested, and 4,920 cartons of untaxed cigarettes plus a Nissan Almera were seized. The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967 and the suspect and goods were taken to the Klang Utara district police headquarters.

Jaecoo J5 EV launched in Malaysia from RM118,800
OMODA Jaecoo Malaysia has launched the Jaecoo J5 EV, its first fully electric model here, priced at RM118,800 on-the-road without insurance. The single-variant EV is locally assembled at Chery Corporate Malaysia's plant in Shah Alam, offering up to 402km of WLTP range from a 58.9kWh battery. A launch package worth RM10,000 is offered for the first 1,000 units registered by October 31.

Lorry driver fails in High Court bid for RM19,604 termination benefits
The High Court in Shah Alam dismissed a lorry driver's appeal against the Director-General of Manpower's decision rejecting his claim for RM19,604 in salary in lieu of notice and termination benefits. The court found R. A. Murugan, 55, had breached his employment contract by staying away from work for more than two consecutive working days after May 13, 2024.

Zambry urges POLYCC to build AI culture on campus
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir called on polytechnic and community college leaders to embed artificial intelligence into campus culture. He said AI is not just about using apps but about working faster and producing job-ready graduates. The event in Shah Alam also launched the POLYCC Agentic AI League 2026 and the POLYCC AI Buddy platform, with PTSS Arau crowned champion.

25 Shah Alam students compete in NST junior journalist contest
Twenty-five students from four Shah Alam secondary schools took part in the inaugural New Straits Times Heard The News Junior Journalists Challenge. Shrilaxmi Harenath Rao of SMK Bukit Jelutong won, with Sanjanaah Mages Varan and Qaseh Nazatul Nabila Mohd Ridzuan of SMK TTDI Jaya second and third. The event, held for NST's 181st anniversary, was supported by the Petaling Perdana Education Office and sponsored by Nestle.

Classroom at SK Setia Alam destroyed in fire
A classroom at Sekolah Kebangsaan Setia Alam on Persiaran Setia Prima in Shah Alam caught fire this afternoon. Firefighters received the emergency call at 4.20pm and found the classroom 100 per cent burnt, though the flames were out before the Bukit Jelutong fire station crew arrived. No injuries were reported and investigators are looking into the cause.

Malaysia SMART team returns from Nepal flood mission, all 11 in good health
The Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) arrived back in Malaysia at 2am today after its humanitarian and disaster relief mission in Nepal. The 11-member team departed Kathmandu on an RMAF A400M aircraft with a refuelling stop in Kolkata, and was confirmed in good health after health screenings at RMAF Subang Air Base. Its drones and other equipment were handed over to Nepali rescue teams searching for flash flood and landslide victims.

22nd Japanese Film Festival screens 14 films across five cities
The 22nd Japanese Film Festival began on 8 September in the Klang Valley before travelling to George Town, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu until 18 October. Fourteen Japanese films are being shown, including a retrospective of director Yamada Yoji and a Girl Power programme, with special Kokuho screenings at GSC Mid Valley and GSC MyTOWN.

Mok Yoh Pok Kob D'KL, a Kelantanese nasi berlauk restaurant, began operating on 11 July at Elmina Temu 2, Shah Alam. It specialises in gulai serati made with serati ducks supplied from Bachok, Kelantan, and has drawn strong response from residents around Elmina, Kota Damansara and Shah Alam.

146 held, 50 motorcycles seized in Bukit Raja toll plaza road bully op
Selangor police detained 146 people aged 16 to 25 and seized 50 motorcycles in an integrated operation against road bullies at the Bukit Raja Toll Plaza on the NKVE early Saturday. The operation, involving JSPT, JPJ and AADK, issued 116 summonses and screened 22 people for drugs, with no positive results.

Traditional healer acquitted of killing patient during ritual
The High Court in Shah Alam acquitted Che Hong Chiew, 55, of murdering Lim Sin Hue, 41, who sought ritual treatment in 2022. The judge found she was of unsound mind due to schizophrenia at the time and ordered her detained at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta. The prosecution has appealed.

Mondelez invests RM90mil in Shah Alam Cadbury plant, adds Crumb Tower
Mondelez International has invested RM90 million in its Cadbury confectionery plant in Shah Alam, Selangor, launching a new Crumb Tower that lets the factory produce chocolate crumb locally instead of importing it from South Africa and Australia. Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the investment shows confidence in the state as a long-term manufacturing base, while Mondelez's Malaysia and Singapore managing director Simon Crowther said it strengthens self-sufficiency and Shah Alam's role in the regional network.

Preacher charged with keeping nude photos, porn videos on two phones
An independent preacher pleaded not guilty at the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court to two charges of possessing nude photographs and pornographic videos on two mobile phones. The alleged offence took place at the Shah Alam district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department on July 1 last year. Bail was set at RM5,000 with one surety and the case will be mentioned again on Oct 27.

GWM Malaysia renews Malayan Xpedition partnership, subsidised entry for Tank owners
GWM Malaysia has renewed its partnership with Malayan Xpedition for 2026 through a Memorandum of Understanding signed at PARC Subang on August 19. Eligible GWM Tank 300 and Tank 500 owners will receive subsidised participation fees to join the off-road expedition. GWM also highlighted two modified Tank 300 Diesels completing all six legs of the Asia Cross Country Rally 2026 in Thailand.

Safwan and Noshazwani named best athletes of Para SUKMA Selangor 2026
The closing ceremony of Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 at the Selangor International Trade Centre (SITC) in Shah Alam saw Selangor swimmer Muhammad Safwan Suhaimi named Best Male Athlete after taking six golds and one bronze. Sarawak athletics athlete Noshazwani Maisara Marzuki, 23, was named Best Female Athlete with two golds and a silver, including two games records in F37 javelin and shot put.

Selangor overall champion of Para SUKMA 2026 with 93 golds
Selangor emerged overall champion of Para SUKMA 2026 in Shah Alam with 200 medals, including 93 golds, surpassing its initial target of 60 golds. Sabah was runner-up with 69 golds while Sarawak finished third with 52 golds. Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari hoped the national para athletes will continue to excel up to the Paralympic level.

Nik Muhammad Hashraff Muazzam wins SU5 gold at Para SUKMA Selangor 2026
Nik Muhammad Hashraff Muazzam Mohd Hilmi won the men's singles SU5 (physical disability) gold at the Selangor 2026 Para Malaysia Games at the Selangor State Youth and Sports Complex in Shah Alam. The 19-year-old beat Sabah's Gerald H. Simbaku VII 21-23, 21-10, 21-10 after receiving tips from Paralympic champion Cheah Liek Hou. The win made up for disappointments in the previous two editions.

MSU holds two-day SDG-ESG symposium in Shah Alam
Management and Science University (MSU) held the SDG-ESG Synergy Symposium with Times Higher Education on 3 and 4 September at the Performing Arts Theatre on its main campus in Shah Alam. The symposium brought together leaders from higher education, government and industry to discuss the UN Sustainable Development Goals and ESG principles. MSU also shared 950 SDG-related initiatives documented between 2022 and 2025 and its placing in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026.

Property entrepreneur wins Facebook defamation suit at Shah Alam High Court
The Shah Alam High Court ruled that property entrepreneur Datuk Mohamad Azlan Abdullah @ Ali succeeded in his defamation suit against Shahruldi Mahafiz Ramli over two Facebook posts. The court ordered the defendant to pay RM30,000 in costs, with damages to be assessed in separate proceedings.

Former general manager remanded two days over abuse of position in property firm
A former general manager of a property investment holding company has been remanded for two days by the MACC over allegations of abusing his position to approve promotions, salary adjustments and bonuses without following standard operating procedures. The remand order was issued by Magistrate Wan Noora Nisa Ngadirin in Shah Alam today. The suspect was detained while giving a statement at the Selangor MACC office.
