Sarawak records RM116bil investment since 2020, says Awang Tengah
Sarawak has recorded more than RM116 billion in domestic and foreign investment over five years since 2020, according to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan. In a Malaysia Day 2026 message, he said development must continue to benefit the people through education, jobs and economic opportunity, and urged respect for MA63 and the IGC Report.

MCA Selangor urges full UEC recognition, merit-based university entry
MCA Selangor passed resolutions demanding full recognition of the UEC for entry into public universities and the civil service, and a review of the UPU admissions mechanism to be based on academic merit. The state convention also raised Selangor's non-Muslim place of worship guidelines, the state's pig farming ban and a proposal to bring back GST.

WEF: women hold 19.3% of AI engineer roles as parity gains stall
The World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2026, published in Geneva, says the world is closer to gender parity than at any time in 20 years but progress is fragile and reversing in political empowerment. Women make up just 19.3% of AI engineers and are concentrated in lower-paid data annotation work, while the share of women founders with AI engineering skills rose to 8.7% in the first half of 2026. Southern Asia remains the lowest-scoring region for economic participation at 40.9%.

Sim Kui Hian: Malaysia Day a time to understand MA63 and Sabah, Sarawak rights
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said Malaysia Day should be a time for all Malaysians to reflect on the country's 1963 formation and the rights of Sabah and Sarawak. He said MA63, now enshrined in the Federal Constitution, must remain the reference for the two states' position.

Lawyer Rosli Dahlan disputes Negeri Sembilan exco statement on ruler's removal
A lawyer has questioned the validity of a statement issued by the Negeri Sembilan executive council declaring the removal of Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the state's ruler. Rosli Dahlan asked whether Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim had endorsed the statement, which was signed off simply as the lineup of exco members. The statement, posted by several Barisan Nasional exco members, comes two days after the Negeri Sembilan Dewan Keadilan dan Undang maintained that Tuanku Muhriz remains the ruler.

Abdul Hadi gives statement to police over alleged US interference
PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has given a statement to the Royal Malaysia Police over an investigation into claims that the United States offered cooperation to topple the Barisan Nasional government in 2014. The statement was made several days ago in Kuala Lumpur, and police have recorded 12 statements so far under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Malaysia Day 2026: King, Selangor Sultan, PM and DPM urge unity

PAS: 'Muafakat' formula can resolve UMNO-PAS seat allocation issue
PAS President's political secretary Syahir Sulaiman said the 'muafakat' formula used in the Negeri Sembilan state election can resolve the seat allocation issue between UMNO and PAS. He proposed that BN and PN avoid clashing in each other's incumbent seats while negotiating to capture PH's marginal seats. He said the formula could help the BN-PN alliance win a 112-seat parliamentary majority and take 10 states in Peninsular Malaysia including Selangor.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin of Selangor have expressed their condolences over the death of former Selangor exco member and veteran lawyer Datuk V. L. Kandan, 89, who died yesterday. Kandan served two terms as Sungai Way assemblyman from 1974 to 1982 and sat on the Selangor Pardons Board.

PH says no talks yet with Melaka CM on state election cooperation
Pakatan Harapan election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said no discussions have been held with Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh on cooperation for the Melaka state election. He said the decision to dissolve the state assembly rests with the Chief Minister, and the Chief Minister's Office denied viral claims that dissolution documents had been signed.

RON97, unsubsidised RON95 and unsubsidised diesel will rise 35 sen a litre for Sept 17-23, 2026, the Finance Ministry said under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism. Brent crude topping US$100 a barrel amid West Asian conflict and Russian refining disruptions drove the increase. Subsidised BUDI95 and BUDI Diesel prices stay unchanged.

EU plans minimum age of 13 for social media use
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced plans to set a minimum age of 13 for children using social media, with parental supervision until 15. The bill is expected to be detailed on Thursday and still needs approval from the European Parliament and EU countries.

MAPIM backs Malaysia's firm stance against Israel-linked transit cargo
MAPIM has endorsed the Malaysian government's firm stance against allowing the country to be used as a transit route for cargo contributing to Israel's military capabilities. Anwar: Tabung Haji asked for RCI report delay over mass withdrawal fear

Sarawak arts council receives mobile stage truck from JKKN
The Sarawak Arts Council (MSS) received a mobile stage truck from the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) Sarawak branch in Kuching, to be used for arts and cultural events in different areas including outside the city. Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Abdul Karim said the handover reflects continued cooperation between federal and state agencies and strengthens Sarawak's arts, culture and heritage ecosystem.

Negeri Sembilan Exco affirms removal of Tuanku Muhriz, recognises Tuanku Nadzaruddin
The Negeri Sembilan state executive council has affirmed the validity of the proclamation removing Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as Yang di-Pertuan Besar and recognised Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Jaafar as the new ruler with immediate effect. The Exco, chaired by Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim, said the proclamations under Articles 10 and 11 of the state constitution were signed and sealed by the four legitimate Undang. The decision follows months of dispute over the state's royal succession, which had been brought before the Seremban High Court.

Ahmad Zahid visits Jakarta from Thursday, halal and disaster cooperation in focus
