Safety drivers behind the wheel of autonomous vehicles in Punggol say their role is far more demanding than passengers assume, requiring constant alertness and the ability to take over at any moment. Both Grab-WeRide and ComfortDelGro-Pony.ai run public AV shuttle trials in Punggol, with Grab planning to grow its fleet from 10 to 50 vehicles and a Bill tabled in parliament to extend the AV regulatory sandbox to end-2028.
